January 9, 20179 yr Gregg, does the Pilot edition appear in FSCaptain's Dispatch List do you know? I notice 2D panels are part of the Pro Edition, and you apparently need 2D panels to embed the FCDU, though Peter from FSC kindly notes one can add 2D panels, somehow, some way. The Pro 2D panels are the "whole cockpit" panels and the overhead. If you mean just the 2D popups for individual components of the 3D cockpit such as the FMC, these are included in the Pilot Edition. Take a look at this (old Pilot version) tutorial to check it gives what you need:

January 9, 20179 yr Hi Noel, the Pilot edition should appear for sure. I have used it for years with FSCaptain until I upgraded to the Pro edition. If the Pilot edition does not appear, just send a request on the FSCaptain support forum. Peter
January 9, 20179 yr Hope you are right about the CRJ, I won a copy of it during that 24 hour fundraiser in the summer and have been looking forward to its release. I just hope Mathijs Kok remembers that I won it. As for the Q400, wow what an amazing aircraft, add FS2Crew to it and perhaps the Pilots2Sim vidoes and its a dream. Mark CYYZ
January 9, 20179 yr Is it safe to say the Pilot edition does appear in the Dispatch List in FSCaptain then? This is the only question to be answered to keep me from pulling the trigger! Thanks! I don't use FSCaptain, but this PDF from the FSCaptain site says it works on page 1: http://www.fscaptain.net/downloads/FSCaptain%20Airplane%20Configuration%20How-To.pdf The toughest plane so far was the Majestic Dash 8 Q400, but even that (beautiful) plane now works flawlessly with FSCaptain.
January 10, 20179 yr Author Great--Pilot edition presumably works then, which was the essence of my question. OK, here goes! Thanks it looks fantastic. The learning curve coming from Boeing? January 10, 20179 yr It flies more like a GA plane with a really good autopilot, go at it with that mindset rather than looking for Boeing equivalent procedures. If you really want to learn properly, I can't recommend the Airline2Sim Cadet videos enough, they are great. Also, the FS2Crew module is worth it. A few general pointers: It has VNAV, but it's pretty basic, you will have to fly climbs and most on-autopilot descents using IAS or VS mode It has no autothrottle, at height you can pretty much firewall it at props 850, but climbs and descents will be higher workload as you will have to monitor speed as well Alt Sel is your best friend, use it often, set it early, otherwise your set altitude in your PFD is merely advisory Power on until touch down, if you do the 737 "throttle back to idle at 30 ft", your passengers will need new spines and you will end up on or maybe before the numbers Enjoy!
January 10, 20179 yr Author Power on until touch down, if you do the 737 "throttle back to idle at 30 ft", your passengers will need new spines and you will end up on or maybe before the numbersEnjoy! That's awesome I appreciate the concise high value areas to focus on--thanks! I fly the RA Turbine Duke so have a little familiarity w/ turboprop behaviors, only the Dash 8 sounds like it on steroids. I find I have to pay very close attention to maintaining pitch and airspeed because of the latency in throttle response w/ the Duke. Hopefully it's not too much for me. I only get in so deep, enough to do well in FSCaptain. This bird sounds like it is less tolerant of carelessness, but in general I enjoy the challenge of getting the sequence of actions right, even if I don't know what's really happening in a lot of detail! January 10, 20179 yr Author Well, my first landing went fine, until it was time to stop! Does this bird play well w/ GSX? Hope so, but haven't tried it yet. Frame performance is spectacular on this thing! Quite a novel approach to use the sim engine outside of P3D's core processing or whatever it's doing. Why the heck isn't that happening w/ other products? January 10, 20179 yr Author I looked at the Majestic Dash 8 forum, but don't see an answer to my current two questions: 1. Can't find what to do on this, 'Takeoff: Make sure the steering tiller is centered, Release the control lock. Set PL to RATING, the engines will spool up to 1020 rpm: where is the 'control lock, to release? PL to RATING? 2. When I go to Spot view, it's super bright! Back in the VC (this is a dawn flight), it's quite dark. I read in the Dash 8 forum that this has something to do w/ HDR. Why does this particular bird do this, and none of my other aircraft? Someone suggested another product to fix this, but I'm hoping there's another workaround. Presumably by the age of this aircraft it must be baked in somehow? What an odd problem! Thanks! January 10, 20179 yr Hi Noel, 1. the control lock is the bar that blocks the power levers (throttle). Move it forward, otherwise you won't be able to do much more than taxi speed. "Set PL to rating" mean that you should set the power lever to the position corresponding to the kind of departure you planned for. I usually go for max rating, which means I advance the power levers until the N1 (?) number turns yellow (around 1020) 2. Not sure what you mean with spot view, maybe I never used it. The VC is darkish, but all instruments are easily readable on my system. And yes, the Q400 works well with GSX. Peter
January 11, 20179 yr Author Ok thanks I found some references to the control lock so have that solved now. The issue I'm seeing is that when you start a new load of the Dash 8, HDR is active, the inside of the cockpit is quite bright (this is with and I think without storm/dome light on, it's clearly seeing HDR w/ bloom in the cockpit. Now if I toggle to 2D view, or proceed thru the external views, HDR disappears and it's quite dark outside, and when I return to 3D VC view, now it's lost its HDR/bloom. This is ok, but then the outside world seems to LOSE its HDR when looking outside from inside the cockpit. The next issue comes when you now with to Spot view. Now HDR is fully back on again, and it looks like it's 2h later in the early morning. Something's weird with it and its very undesirable to me. I don't think this is a common problem with other aircraft for FSX/P3D. January 11, 20179 yr Advancing PL to Rating means to advance the power levers to the detente about the position of the letter P in the below image. You can move them further forward (effectively "Full beans, sod FCOM limits" mode), but that will override the power settings and you'll start to see engine numbers go yellow and red. As for the HDR issue, I've honestly never seen that and I use HDR myself. You don't use Reshade or PTA do you? It's the only thing I might expect to interfere. Worth a support ticket (maybe with a video) to the devs before spending any money.
January 11, 20179 yr Definetly QualityWings 146 collection. Unfortunately they are not working very well with P3D v3.X and have a non-existing support. Other than that... it would be a good idea. Georgian Virtual Airports (UGMS Mestia / UGGT Telavi / UGAM Ambrolauri)
