XP11 Beta - colors look very pale and washed out

You can''t get a haze effect inside the cockpit. Nothing in the VC shows black or anywhere close to it. Everything that should be black is dark gray. That is the problem. BTW I had set it at 100% vis.

I'll agree about excess haze. I made a post about it a few days ago, with some demo screen shots about how I couldn't see a runway 10 miles away with the visibility slider set to 10 miles viz:

However, something else is going on if you're seeing that effect inside the cockpit with the current pb15 beta. Even with thick haze outside, my cockpits are clear, and show deep blacks in the shadows. Check out the first of the screen shots I posted in that thread above. It shows the PC-12 instrument panel with deep blacks in a few areas.

It sounds to me that something is off in either your monitor's gamma adjustment, or gamma adjustments in X-Plane.

My monitor is calibrated perfectly ( this is my field). I wouldn't think that I would have to calibrate a monitor for one piece of software. I used the C 172 for one flight and the panel and all the gauges are washed out. Same with the panel on the default helicopter, which was the only real interest I had in trying.

I am having other issues as well. I have calibrated my joysticks probably well over a dozen times and everytime I start a flight in the heli, I have to do it again otherwise the controls are wacked out. . I never have to touch the calibration in P3D. All in all, I gave it a try, and now it is going into the recycle bin..

If this is your field (it's mine too, I'm using a calibrated monitor), then you know many non-pros have monitors that are out of adjustment or have weird gamma settings, which is why I mentioned it. Did you check that screen shot I mentioned above, of the PC-12 panel?

Also, here... I just did a screen shot of the default C172 on the runway under a clear blue sky, viz set to 20 miles. Plenty of blacks in the panel, both shadowed and on the sunlit compass.

If your panel doesn't look like that under similar conditions, then it might be your gamma setting in X-Plane.

Well I am still new to XPlane so Im sure many of you know this but a very quick way to get more saturated colors is to open the menu and select 'Developer' and then 'Show Sky Colors' and then click the radio button next to 'hialt'.

It looks fantastic in the Rohnerville (KFOT) to KSTS area in the afternoon.

I decided to make a new 'mount' texture that is 25% original 'mount' and 75% 'hialt'.  It looks great.

Can you post a shot of your new mount texture?

well he does have a point. every single post of you in this forum has been negative towards x-plane (either in this subforum or in the p3d subforum) and pretty much boils down to p3d is superior there is so much bad in x-plane and i have 100reds of hour experience in rl planes.

Its entertaining to see that you come back to something that you inherently hate so much just to torture yourself and complaining about it on the forum. There is no way to help you in any way whatsovever in the post you made, you basically said "this is wrong, i am right" the only way to answer to your post is saying "geee you are right, p3d is superior, we have lost our ways. Please accept our apologies sensei"

Both sims have their strongpoints and can coexist peacfully. You like P3D then enjoy it. I enjoy P3D too ocasionally with the fslabs. I also enjoy x-plane. But i dont need the convert others to the "right sim" ;)
