P3d V2 - V3 - Explain the magic of Migration tool?

But how do you install sceneries without the tool?

you wait  till the  dev  makes  the  dual  installers

It really depends on the scenery. Sometimes you can install it into a dummy folder and move it to P3D. Sometimes all you need to do is put a dummy FSX.EXE file in the P3D folder and point to it. And, there are some that are not really compatible with P3D and cannot or shouldn't be installed.

In my opening post  I talk about an Aerosoft Kilimanjaro that works only with migration tool. I created a dummy p3d.exe in the folder and the night lights didn't work

If anyone has any ideas, would be massively appreciative

Sounds to me like people have problems when they uninstall the Migration Tool.  I have been using it for over a year and have not had any issues, this includes after moving my P3D install and C drive to new SSD's.  Personally I think its worth the risk....if you are really worried, create a restore point before using it and backup your C drive and P3D drive using Acronis so you can at least go back to where you were before the install.

And it may be that the way the night lights were created is incompatible with P3D. There are many scenery techniques from FS2000/2004 that work in FSX that do not work in P3D ver 3.x

PS the migration tool broke a fresh install of P3D for me. Had to rebuild the computer. A very poorly designed and poorly supported workaround.

Well I have taken heed from here and uninstalled the migration tool.

Still a lot of questions on this I think

Technically, Aerosoft Kilimanjaro isn't supported on v3. And I've come across other Aerosoft airports not compatible for v3 that have the same problem with the lights.

You should still be able to install it and use it during the day. Just install it as you normally would, making sure you point to your P3Dv3 folder. As far as I can remember, you will also to manually enable it in the scenery library within P3D.

Oh, and I'm another one who wouldn't touch the migration tool with a barge pole.

Best regards,
