GNS 2.1 display blank

Recommended Posts

Sorry guys,

blank and blank at daytime and nighttime on my side in every aircraft.

The Datarefs Instrument brightness could not to be changed from 1.000000 (Why should I change something, expecting working software after paying nealry 45 bucks.)

So for me a bad purchase as an old RXP user.

XP11, no older GTN or what ever installed. Installation went wrong, no GNS folder in the plugins.

Copied from XP10.

Yes I did a controlled installation.

Hmm. What an evening with fiddeling around for hours instead of flying XP.

Thanks for any help...

Edit: Same game in XP10 by the way....

Steff

Steff,

Let me try to help you. I'm sure once figured out, you'll agree it is a good purchase, and just a bad installer experience.

First, you don't have nor need to manually change a dataref! The datarefs mentioned in the thread is for reference only. These are the datarefs our plugin is 'reading' to determine what are the light levels. This is important to know because there is no 100% plug-n-play. Most of the time, aircraft modellers adhere to the 'standards' and the first values in the dataref array of values are what stock aircraft use. However, we've had the experience lately of an helicopter which was designed to re-purpose the standard integral lighting rheostat to drive a strobe light... So in short, with our settings, you have more freedom to connect our plugin to the correct sources for your aircraft.

Now, as for the installation, can you process with the installer and copy the content of the installer sheet named "Ready to install"? It should look something like this:

Selected components:
Product Files and Plugin for X-Plane 11
      Product Documentation

XPlane 11 location:
      C:\X-Plane 11

Destination location:
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Reality XP\GNS Simulation\X-Plane

Additional tasks:
Enable automatic updates (when running, the product will check for updates)

Garmin GNS Trainer Lite is already installed

Dear Jean-Luc,

first, sorry for beeing a bit angry yesterday evening. Please don´t take it personally. I love your products since years, sometime I just purchase to support you without using the stuff. RXP WXR 500 I never used in FS times...

So here we are: I try now to start XP11 with the King Air 200 by Carenado with engines running

I tried to copy pictures here but, I am not allowed...

But it is all setup up as you kindly desribed above.

But: same result: The GNS stays dark and off.

I tried the install procedure minimum 10 times now....

No luck on my side, sorry.

Thank you for your patience and support Steff.

Alright for the first step. Now can you post the content of the rxpGnsSim.dll.log and rxpGNS.xpl.log files in "my documents" folder?

Then, in the INI file section [GNS_530_1], what about manually changing this line to:

; selects the integral lighting rheostat: 0 to 3
Rheostat.Display = 0

Hi Jan-Luc,

rxpGnsSim.dll.log : 17/01/19 14:15:16.914 04296 -    ] # rxpGnsSim64.dll version 2.0.0.0

rxpGNS.xpl.log: 17/01/19 14:15:11.454 04296 -    ] # win.xpl version 2.0.0.0

And I changed the Reostat.Dispaly to 0

In the Kingair 200 I switched the Avionics on, the buttons of GNS 530 lighten on, nothing else occurs...display stays black.

Sorry..

Best

Steff

Sorry Steff for the delay.

So we are making progress: the logs show no failure, the plugin is working (keys lighted).

First a question we've missed: what is your OS version and Video card?

Can you confirm the logs you copied where from after you tried the K200 and turned the avionics on, and not from a previous flight?

When the sim is running, and you've opened a GNS device in the aircraft, what about deselecting the device and selecting it again? (this will kill then start the trainer again)

When the sim is running, and you've opened a GNS device in the aircraft, do you see "G530SIM.exe" in the task manager? (press CTRL+SHFT+ESC to open the task manager)

If you get "G530SIM.exe" in the task manager, what is the typical %CPU value?

Otherwise, At this stage, I'm thinking could this be a problem with the computer 'locale' ( your computer is in German, not English isn't it? )

What is the complete path name to the GNS trainer installation? ( this should be like "C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\GNS Trainer\GNS" )

Here are my answers dear Jan-Luc,

First a question we've missed: what is your OS version and Video card?  Win 7 Pro, GTX 970

Can you confirm the logs you copied where from after you tried the K200 and turned the avionics on, and not from a previous flight? Confirmed, started XP11 new selected K200

17/01/20 09:09:43.269 03344 -    ] # win.xpl version 2.0.0.0

17/01/20 09:09:49.371 03344 -    ] # rxpGnsSim64.dll version 2.0.0.0

When the sim is running, and you've opened a GNS device in the aircraft, what about deselecting the device and selecting it again? (this will kill then start the trainer again) Doesn´t help...

When the sim is running, and you've opened a GNS device in the aircraft, do you see "G530SIM.exe" in the task manager? (press CTRL+SHFT+ESC to open the task manager)

If you get "G530SIM.exe" in the task manager, what is the typical %CPU value? Got it , Value is 0 - 0.7 average 0.55, Mem Usage 70,064k

Otherwise, At this stage, I'm thinking could this be a problem with the computer 'locale' ( your computer is in German, not English isn't it? ) Yes German

What is the complete path name to the GNS trainer installation? ( this should be like "C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\GNS Trainer\GNS" ) It is...

Thanks for your kind help so far!!

Best

Thank you Steff, this helps narrowing down the issue.

Can you also confirm it behaves the same regardless of the aircraft? (make sure to also set Rheostat.Display = 0 in other aircraft just in case).

If you are confident in using dataref editor, can you please cross check "sim/cockpit2/switches/instrument_brightness_ratio" and see if the values reported at indices 0 and 1 are not 0.0000, otherwise, manually change the values to 1.0000 (or manipulate the panel instrument/panel lighting knobs) to see if this changes the display?

No success, but I tried the XP own c172 there it works obviously...  But I don´t want to fly with this aircraft... :-(

Seems that the Addons have the problem...

But !! Got it working in the Beech Baron 58 by Carenado but just one unit. the second one stays blank.... grrrr.

Best as ever

At Last, we are making good progress! If you've modified the Rheostat.Display = 0 for the B58 too, you might want to change this line in the INI file for each GNS device you use too.

Let me try to help you. I'm sure once figured out, you'll agree it is a good purchase, and just a bad installer experience.

Hi Steffen, many thanks to your enduring patience. This issue is important, in that we wanted to give more control to you, our customers, for the integration of the GNS to any aircraft, and it shows a lot of aircraft don't adhere to common practices, or don't offer the same level of options.

I think what I'll do for the next update is to limit the default to 100% brightness, and make it an opt-in setting. This way, out of the box experience will be seamless while the GNS keeps the extra capabilities handy when needed.

I am having the same issue, can't get the RXP GNS 530 v2 on xplane 11 or 10 on any aircraft to work. ALL BLANK SCREEN. Yes tried the Rheostat.Display = 0, no luck.  bare with me please as I am new to Xplane long time FSX/P3D. Also unable to get RXP in the panel. First got to get it working first.

Sorry for the little delay, it has been quite cold over here and I've literally caught it. v2.2 update is on it way in the coming day or two and should solve all this and more.
