File Library For My Website?

Recommended Posts

Hey folks... I have a website of my own, and I would like to have a simple file library of some kind so that me and my friends can upload and download files without having to go through a whole big deal or using FTP programs. I'd like to just be able to go onto my site, have an interface to select a file to upload, and it would automatically show up on a download page for download. Anyone know how I would do that?

Hi Todd,That is a brave concept. I would advise against it, unless you are ONLY talking about files you and your friends create. If so, there are many scripts out there that allow you to accomplish that.I did a search in Google and came up with these:http://www.google.com/search?q=freeware+up...=utf-8&oe=utf-8However, the king of all script places that I use regularly is here:http://hotscripts.com/If you are allowed PHP, CGI, Perl, or other fun code, you can also set up password access and all kinds of locked doors to keep others out except your friends.Remember, a lot of freeware license files stipulate that a file can only be uploaded at a certain place. Why open a can of worms that can be left open somewhere else instead of your place? You may be better off doing what this place has done by providing links to where the files are housed.http://vanslooten.org/fs2004.phpI can help you a bit if you have some questions on all this. I know quite a bit about it actually. :-)Oh yeah, you can do all this with 100% FREEWARE Software. Where you host and what you pay for that is entirely up to you though.Me, I use these fine folks, which I pay for.http://www.globat.comJust my nickel.regards,me,... ....

Hey... thanks for your help!Actually this wouldnt be for flightsim files at all. Wont even be used for software, period. Mostly personal files, such as audio and video. I.E., I'm having trouble sending a file to a friend or they're having trouble sending it to me... instead of bringing up an FTP program, which most of my friends dont even know how to use, and uploading it, then typing out the link, etc... Just get on my site, upload it, and tell the other person it's up there to grab.I dont know too much about scriptwork... basically, I just want the ability to upload personal files through IE6 browser, and have a page that lists all the files currently uploaded, and be able to download them. Thanks again.

You'd have to use a good password protection system as well.If you don't within hours, maybe minutes, some scriptkiddie will have found it and started storing kiddie porn and pirated software on it, maybe even use it as a distribution point for his latest trojan or virus.
