FSX / AF / sound issues / performance

We always believed that keeping FSX off core 1 was a good thing based on Bojote's findings a while back.  This is 11111110 binary on an 4 core ht machine.  Looks feasible except that this creates an issue with Sound Blaster cards. The symptom is a sound channel (engine or AI) cracking up.


Original Findings

With a 11111110 binary core assignment and forcing all addons to use core 1, 00000001 binary we assumed that FSX would be happy.  Problem is that FSX only works correctly IF it has access to core 1.  There was a change in the way that the OS processed cores with Windows Vista.  This same technology exists in my current Window 0 OS.


Short Ending

Using a tool (like FSXASSIST), we are now setting the usable FSX cores to 11111111 on a 4 core box with Ht enabled. other apps get 11111110 keeping them off core 1.


Long Ending

With drivers, which have no loading restrictions, they may or may not load on core 1 (with or without Ht).  Also , since sound cards use IO ports there may be additional access restrictions. 



Windows 10 is using advanced process security technology that may block or delay sound card access across cores.
