What causes vertical ghost cloud effects at night in P3D and FSX.

I've seen this in both sims. What causes the ghost cloud effects in the distance in FSX/P3D. I use Rex and AS products. Here is a link to the image.

I guess thats supposed to simulate the milky way, which consists of many stars in reality. I dont see it because I have my desktop set to 45 % brightness and consider this the sweet spot for most realistic contrast.

It's the rendition of the Milky Way indeed.

 

Thanks for the assist. This has always drove me crazy. Like others I thought it was a graphics or monitor issue. I applied the AVSIM link update and it works great.
