Advice Needed on Vid Card Upgarde

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Wanted to ask your opinion on whether its worth upgrading my GTX960 2GB card to something like the GTX 1060 5GB.  I mainly sim on FSX with DX10.

Thanks!

I would not bother..  I very much doubt it would buy you anything for FSX.

I agree, for a single monitor setup the card you have is fine.

Same question for P3D ... but from GTX 780 to 1070 ??

Is it just a matter of sliders bit more to the right? Not expecting more fps but more detail on the ground does have its appeal.

Also looking hard at X-Plane ...

Can't do any harm but the experience of any who've done something similar is a big help.

I'm using an i2700k at 4.4 with 24 GB RAM, 800watt PSU.

Best regards

It depends on what resolution you want to run things at. I have a GTX670, which is a nice card and all, but I would not be able to run a 4K curved widescreen, as the max. resolution the card supports is 2560x1440 or so.

I also run the i7-2700K, but I have it ticking over at 4.8GHz...

Hey Bert,

Even if I'm running 4K, DX10 and cloud shadows?  Nothing?

Thanks!

If you go to higher resolutions, you have to make sure that your card supports that resolution for starters..

My 960 supports the 4k resolution as I'm running on it now.  Just want to know if I'd get any additional smoothness/FPS on an upgrade with a higher memory and clockspeed considering my listed factors.

Thanks.
