Whats after 747 v3? I have a suggestion

Recommended Posts

With a such a talented group of developers why would folks insist they work on yet another modern Boeing Aircraft?  Just how much different would it be from what we already have in the current line-up?  Although I love the 767 as much as the next person and in fact flew the wings off the Level-D version, we're well represented in the Big Iron Modern Boeing Aircraft from PDMG.  I'd like to see this team continue to push their comfort level into entirely new areas.

It's a great time for Flight Simulation Enthusiasts.

Given the quality of the products they have offered for Prepar3D so far, I'll buy their next upcoming aircraft no matter what it is.  Even if it's a kite or paper airplane simulation....because?  I know they took it to the extreme.

Totally with you on this one. Developers at PMDG blow us out of the water with each release. The planes scream quality. In my opinion It would be nice for them to do the 767/757/787 but at a later date. We have enough Boeing aircraft at the moment. I'd like to see the team model a complete different aircraft, different systems and a different feel overall.

Kind of an insult to a team who devote a lot of time and resources to knowing how to create an in depth Boeing, no? :/

Simmers and their naivety about development makes feel for a team sometimes not to mention the want want want in general!

what insult exactly? the part where i say their products scream quality and blow us out of the water?

You sir, misunderstood what i wrote. I said they have made very good Boeing sim aircraft which i appreciate highly and at the same time I would like to see them make different aircraft with their usual  PMDG quality.

How would that pass as an insult?

Because what they have with Boeing takes time to learn to be able to make it as good as they do! Not to mention the relationship with Boeing that helps make it possible, simply saying start all that again because you want a different aircraft and systems logic makes a bit of a mockery of it.

Alekee does not seem to be directing any insult, he in fact made a compliment, on the contrary SpeedbirdA320FO you are the one who have blown this out of proportion, and on another note, you don't know what PMDG are doing in the background and neither do I, so it is inappropriate for you to simply say they only work with Boeing.

Anyways I'm not proposing to debate this anymore and if you want to have the last word and it makes you feel better that's fine with me.

I agree with you that these study level products take time to develop no doubt. But PMDG have said time and again that their relationship with Boeing is not what most customers think.(can't find the post where this was said). PMDG made the DC-6 for x-plane and have also made the jetsream 41.Were they boeing aircraft? no. but they all had that PMDG touch of quality.

i think that clearly shows that they don't make aircraft because they have relationships with certain aircraft companies.

If they make another Boeing aircraft , well and good. It will be another high quality addon from PMDG, if they don't still it will be another high quality addon from them. No mockery there as you imply.

I hope they release a P3D version of their Jetstream 4100. It's a amazing aircraft, and for sure that's easier that designing a new plane.

They will clear the back catalogue of things that people keep jumping up and down about, (engine variations, and such)

Next after that  will be some sort of prop, that will be a test of new things they are learning thing, and then a shiney new jet.

But actually I think that the programming team are tired of being constrained by the sim that they work with.

I THINK PMDG will bring out thier own simming platform, one that works the way they want it to so they can do the things they WANT to do.

Think about it, Apple, they have thier own phone, and own iOS so why not PMDG.... own plane, in its own simming world...

You know its possible, they have the right team of talented programmers, and you can bet that the network of people that they have access to,  Both at software (FS Addon's) and hardware level (boeing/Level D sim project they are setting up) would be exponential.

Whatever it is, its a game changer!

...because it probably wouldn't make very good business sense?

Developing top quality add on aircraft is one thing. Developing an entire sim, most of which (FDE etc aside) would be outside the sphere of expertise of PMDG, launching it in to a market which is already becoming saturated for its size with, still, a huge FSX user base, LM actively developing P3D, DTG working on DFS, X-Plane, perhaps Aerofly etc in the future. Of those, DTG and LM in particular are much bigger fish than PMDG when it comes to financial muscle for development and marketing, and have the advantage of a product that already has the lion's share of the market for very good reasons.

Further, given the typical development times associated with the current product line, how long do you think it would take PMDG to develop an entire sim, how much do you think it would cost and how big is the risk that people would just stick with MSFS/P3D?

I have no knowledge of the inside workings of PMDG or what RSR might be thinking but I know if it was me I would be inclined to carry on doing what I knew I was good at rather than bet the farm on competing with LM, LR and DTG, which is why I suspect this is unlikely.

I'm prepared to be proven wrong though!

Think again buddy, we ain't doing that any time soon. Theres P3D, XPlane, fsx and potentially dovetail to name a few

I am very happy with the 747-400 for the moment; I am sure it will take up much of our time discovering the features and possibilities of the Queen. I have great faith in PMDG's strategy and planning capabilities. A 737, a 777 and now an enhanced 747 is all I require as a flightsim pilot. Whatever lies ahead will present itself to us in the future and we will be duly informed about upcoming models, I'm sure. Personally, as it is always nice to dream, I would like to see a nicely modeled regional jet.

Cheers, Marc

I enjoy my complete line of PMDG products.

However, I must confess that they blew "me" out of the water with the DC-6.

I also think that they had particular fun doing it.

So, while I will be very happy with whatever PMDG brings us, I will be happiest if another "analog" airplane shows up at some point.

AB707? A B727? A B737-200? A DC-8?

Anything that requires that you make your coffee before you start your flight, because you will not have time to make it during the flight.

All of which prove time and time again to be really difficult to produce aircraft for. you can bet RSR and his team are as tired of the amount of time it takes to get a plane to the line as we are for the time it takes for them to arrive. (3-4 years right?)  the more complex the sims get, the longer its going to take to get a plane to the line for purchase.

If he and the team could remove a lot of the nonsense they have to go through to build a plane to the quality that they do, I bet they would without question.

Besides, don't they have a Level D sim in the making. that's going to need software of some sorts right?

Exactly. and this is why I can never understand why these addons are double the cost of the simulators. Then you get programs like Skymaxx which is 2/3 the cost of the simulator for some (o.k. at best) cloud upgrades, and another %50 of the price for new versions that come out every 6 months.

Guys,

Seeing the impassioned ideas here makes for an interesting read. Some ideas are more outlandish than others, but since nobody in this thread has any inkling of an actual clue what we're actually developing, keep in mind that you're all on about the same level of working knowledge. Are some ideas more of a stretch than others? Absolutely. Does this mean that you need to snipe at each other? Nope.

'Winning' an argument here versus someone else participating in this thread isn't going to affect our development plan. There's nothing riding on the discussion here, so keep it civil please.
