Whats after 747 v3? I have a suggestion

Featured Replies

I enjoy my complete line of PMDG products.

However, I must confess that they blew "me" out of the water with the DC-6.

I also think that they had particular fun doing it.

So, while I will be very happy with whatever PMDG brings us, I will be happiest if another "analog" airplane shows up at some point.

AB707? A B727? A B737-200? A DC-8?

Anything that requires that you make your coffee before you start your flight, because you will not have time to make it during the flight.

I agree... very difficult to find a good quality analog tubeliner for Prepar3d... An analog aircraft is what will teach you the real fundamentals of piloting and jet airliners... WOuld be fantastic...

Not sure that huge budgets and resources, like LM or DT have, produced anything memorable recently: PR3D after 3 years is just a small step forward compared to FSX and DT Flight School...well we know all.

LR of XP11 are a small team of a half dozaine of active devs with external contributors, same for IPACS studio developing AeroFlyS2, not sure in flight sim world big equals quality so a PMDG standalone engine could not be impossible, maybe using an already developed 3D engine like Outerra. This only theoretically, I personally bet they have more little scope for their project because they know their strong points and you cannot do everything in a small niche market like flight sim.

Given the apparent liking for old bangers which some of the PMDG people have, DC3, DC6 etc (which I wholeheartedly approve of). I'm hoping they're gonna go for something older in the jetliner arena at some point, and possibly one that ain't been done to a high standard, or even ever done. Like maybe a Convair 880, Caravelle, DC-8 or Mercure (doubtful that last one, I know), or if staying with Boeing, maybe a 720 or Valsan 727 (at least they've already got the cockpit modeled for that last two lol). Although they are doubtless mindful of the fact that there's a danger of stepping into what many see as A2A's territory doing that sort of 'classic' thing, and it's a bit 'niche' too, not everyone likes steam gauges; I bet more people would buy a glass cockpit tubeliner.

People sometimes bemoan the: 'oh my gawd, not another 767 thread' on the PMDG forums, but one thing to be said for that and requests for other aircraft to be considered, is that it does at least offer them some feedback as to what people would at least buy, which is not an inconsiderable resource to have when looking at spending several years and a lot of cash on developing something which, after such an investment in time and money and effort, risks people saying: 'nah, I'm not paying a hundred quid for one of those for FS'.

What makes sense under those circumstances then, is to at least go for developing things which have mileage: i.e. if they develop an EFB for example, people who buy all kinds of FS aircraft would buy it. Similarly, if they decided to do a DC-8 just by way of example, the time spent developing a convincing simulation of a Pratt and Whitney JT3 could be then used on a number of other projects, since that's the engine not only on the DC-8, but also on the 707, 720, B52, KC135 and many more aircraft. Of course what such methodology means is that since they've already modeled a CFM 56, that's another point for the DC-8, since the Super 70 variant of the DC-8 uses the CFM 56 (albeit not exactly the same exact model as most 737s).

Guys,

Seeing the impassioned ideas here makes for an interesting read. Some ideas are more outlandish than others, but since nobody in this thread has any inkling of an actual clue what we're actually developing, keep in mind that you're all on about the same level of working knowledge. Are some ideas more of a stretch than others? Absolutely. Does this mean that you need to snipe at each other? Nope.

'Winning' an argument here versus someone else participating in this thread isn't going to affect our development plan. There's nothing riding on the discussion here, so keep it civil please.

Amen Kyle!!

I find these threads thoroughly entertaining as well, up to the point where the participants start to get "snippy" and turn on each other.  Then it's like watching a bunch of nerdy simmers trying to one-up each other with what they think they know.

In the end guys, we'll all be pleasantly surprised with whatever PMDG announces...so take Kyle's words to heart ...."'Winning' an argument here versus someone else participating in this thread isn't going to affect our development plan. There's nothing riding on the discussion here, so keep it civil please."

So with that in mind....please voice your opinion, be passionate about it if you'd like, but don't criticize others suggestions (no matter how outlandish)...its just good entertainment guys...nothing else.

Steve Dra

Let's just say, the next one will be "a classic" and leave it at that

A classic you say, and they like big old four engined propliners? Cool, can't wait to fly the PMDG Focke-Wulf 200 Condor.

Bit limited on liveries admittedly: 'yeah you can have it in Lufthansa, Luftwaffe, The prototype, and as a captured RAF evaluation aircraft. But, on the plus side, since P3D can have submarines in it, you can do a maritime patrol with it'.

Focke-Wulf 200 Condor

Ooooh a Condor!  One of my favorite WWII aircraft.   It was just a cool-looking plane, like the HE-111 (Loved the top-down view with those huge, long chord wings).  And a Lancaster on the British side, complete with a fully functioning "Dam Buster" kit....to be able to recreate those missions....I'd buy that in an instant!

Considering Gulfstream sues anyone that uses their product without permission in any way I doubt it.

PR3D after 3 years is just a small step forward

6 years and 3 major versions that required re-purchase.

Can't wait for the PMDG version of this!

Yup, the original fly by wire, as in old bicycle cables for the control linkages. :-)

If anybody can convince them to go for it it's PMDG hence my "though" :)

My two favorite airplanes that I flew prior to my retirement (1964-1991) were the first, the Convair 340, and the last, the 747-400.  There were a lot of others in between but these two will always remain with me.

In the next week or so I'll finally be able to return to my "Walter Mitty" memories of the -400 thanks to PMDG's latest release and now all I want is my all time "funnest" airplane I ever flew not only for the plane but for the ambience, the routes, the constantly changing challenges of low level weather, and the contact with the stews and passengers.  It had a cranky, limited autopilot which was only useful in level cruise, and hand-made flight plans were the order of the day. You learned a lot when you had up to thirteen takeoffs and landings a day.

PMDG, PLEASE BRING BACK MY FAVORITE....................;................................................THE CONVAIR 340

Many of your fans may actually again learn to fly a real airplane instead of a flying computer. PMDG's DC-6 was a joy!

Do it again with the CV340.

Frederick Coleman

It is a shame there isn't an appetite for oldies like the 747-200 and DC10-30. I'd love a 757 and 767 though. We shall all wait and see :D 747-400 first though, plenty to keep me occupied!
