Can't get HD mesh to work

Recommended Posts

Flightskyc i have tried alot (2 videos.. 1 forum post, re-did the instructions like 5 times now i think), what i can tell you is that the game loads without errors (according to logs). I have tried many different regions and confirmed that the mesh i have installed is in that region. I have also confirmed that there actually is not any HD mesh even it loads in (two of the exact same textures next to each other, plus i know how my home town looks from above ;)).

Looking at your hometown probably isn't a good way to judge whether HD mesh is loaded, since the main differences are seen outside of urbanized areas. It has nothing to do with the OSM street or building overlays.

Try flying over a coastline or mountain range, and see if the resolution looks better.

I haven't used X-plane for a while, but I just installed the mesh into my XP11 instance and it works straight away. I can also see the dsf files being loaded in the log file, similar to hjsmuc.

This is my ordering for XP11 and the mesh loads absolutely fine.

It annoys because it also says it has loaded in, i am sure it is not there. I tried flying in FL500, i can clearly see the same textures in different locations. Mostly fields etc. I am not talking about the road grid either..

here you go with my log:

You mean FL50? Really, textures don't look that much different with HD mesh. Try a mountainous area, there you should see changes.

Any mesh has to be the very last entry, meaning at the very bottom of your Scenery_packs.ini file. The original poster doesn't have it at the bottom, below "everything" else. To avoid any potential conflicts just always have mesh as the very last entries, works every time. It is the base "mesh" and everything else sits on top of it.

Here's a really good explanation from Tony a few years ago.

Right, however he had the two entries below the HD mesh disabled. Not sure that they can still interfere with the loading, so worth temporarily deleting them. Hope he gets it sorted out.

Yes I saw that. Don't know how that "affects" things, but why not be safe and just put them at the very bottom, where they belong. Then there's no guessing, it has to work properly.

Well I tried v3 in XP11 and ran out of RAM lol!  (Only have 8GB at the moment).

Looks like I won't be running HD Mesh for now.

And that is the best independent way to see if it is loaded or not: start XP with and without the HD mesh, and check memory usage. You should see substantial higher memory usage for the same location.

Oh god ... so much confusion ... And most of the time it is all about "not fully reading the f... manual / website" ...

  • First: YES, you definitely need the "Earth nav data" folder! It is an absolute must as X-Plane requires it! And no, I did not put it in all ZIP files, as that - I thought - would further increase the confusion. So, the first time you install HD Mesh Scenery v3, you need to create once(!) the "Earth nav data" and then put all the unzipped scenery tile folders (the ones which look like +50+010 etc.)  in it!
  • Second: WHAT DO YOU EXPECT from HD Mesh Scenery v3? I mean, there is explicitly a COMPARISON (default / HD Mesh) section, to show you how the exact same locations compare before and after. Check it out, and understand it : https://goo.gl/photos/H6HLY54XM7HoB2qn7
  • Third: the best way to see if HD Mesh Scenery loads is by simply checking the Log.txt (an that I do describe in all details in my instructions).

Solved!!
But i'm not entirely sure what did the trick as i tried several things at once (not the best way of troubleshooting i know).
One of the things i did was re-type the name of the folder "Earth nav data" and payed extra extra extra attention to abundant spaces. Most probably that was the solution.

Thanks for all help and thank you alpilotx for answering my email and offcourse for your great mesh products, i'm enjoying them now to the fullest flying in Switzerland.

Yes, typos in "Earth nav data" are not unheard off (thats why I even explicitly mention it in the instruction  , because X-plane is very picky about this). So, making sure that there is not a "hidden" typo, is always a good way to start finding problems.

So Andras, is your v3 mesh OSM data more up to date than the XP11 pb9 data?  I'm wondering because I'm JUST getting into Ortho4xp and at the moment I'm using XP default global scenery for overlay.  I'm creating a photo tile where I live here in Duluth, MN USA.  What data is more correct or more complete?

As for the RAM, yes I've read the manuals for v2 - but in XP10 and v2 my RAM usage hardly changed.  There must be a huge change in XP11 for RAM usage I guess.  So XP11 with your v3 I can't run at the moment.  I hope to have 16GB on the way soon.
