Taxy straight after landing!

Is there any sort of physical damage modelled in the 777?  The reason I ask is after taxying out at the departure airports, with no problem, followed by a 8hr flight I had quite a "firm" landing at the destination.  After landing I noticed as I slowed down I was needing to keep excessive left rudder to maintain a straight taxy.  There was only a light wind so it wasn't crosswind influence.  Once clear of the runway and cleaned up I started to try and find out why I was having such difficulty but failed to isolate the cause.  To taxy straight needed nearly half deflection left steering.  I went to outside view and whilst taxying my rudder was deflected left but the nose gear was straight.  I let go of the rudder pedal input and the rudder returned to centre and the nose wheel turned to about 30-40 degrees right hand deflection.

 

Hence my first question, was this modelling damage to the gear caused by the firm landing or do I have other potential issues.  This was in FSX-SE.

I had a similar issue but all the time while taxing. Updating my fully licensed FSUIPC solved it.

I had this problem with PMDG 777 when assign my rudder with FSUIPC, now I assign it with default FSX:SE to see how it goes. Not sure if this related to PMDG or FSUIPC or anything, but I did have left tendency when taxiing a while ago.

I've always wondered how airline pilots track the centerline so well.  I'm all over the place...maybe it's me.  LOL.  But, I wonder if FSUIPC could use the tiller sensitivity or something when the airplane is on the ground.

I now have FSUIPC V4.96 and this problem is still randomly happening.  Tonight I flew LHR-JFK and even after a very gentle landing the aircraft tried very hard to turn to the right and kept doiing it all the way to the gate.  Took about half left rudder deflection to taxi straight and I was unable to execute the 90 degree left turn onto the stand.  I had one occurance last week where the problem appeared before take off after pushback.  Restarted the sim and it did not reoccur.

1. Check there are no failures active

 

2. If this occurs after landing, maybe try to manually zero the rudder trim

Rudder is neutral, Nose wheel settles about 45 degrees right.

Have both landed in manual and auto, also happened after pushback before take off and yes, I made sure the AP was off.

Well, I've found the problem    I feel a mixture of silly, confused and happy.  Let me explain.

 

Having seemingly suffered from a random series of not being able to taxy straight in the 777 but no issues with any of the default aircraft I was despairing on what to do next.  At the same time I installed the 747 QOTSII and on the first flight, on leaving the gate guess what, couldn't taxy straight.

 

Now, I uses FSUIPC for setting "profile only" key/axis bindings and one such is for FSL A320 where I have one of the rotaries on throttle set up as a steering tiller.

 

Later, actually as I was about to drop of the sleep, I thought "wonder if?"  and sure enough I found that the "tiller" rotary was not centred.  A quick test proved that this was indeed the cause of my issue.  Now, how a axis binding that I set as "profile only" got added to the general list I have no idea, maybe I missed a radio button somewhere but at least I now know that I can also steer PMDG 777/747QOTSII with a tiller (didn't know that could be done) so adding to the realism.

 

I've been aware since installing FSX-SE on this new PC that FSUIPC seems to randomly drop key bindings so maybe this is another symptom of that.  That is a problem for another day.

 

Anyway, happier for now.

You are probably referring to the FSUIPC "steering set" axis recommended by FSL for tiller control in their new A320. I also was pleasantly surprised to discover that this axis works perfectly for nosewheel steering in the PMDG 747 and 777 as well.

Glad you found the problem.  One other thing I've learned is that if you disable an axis in FSUIPC, you also have to reset the axis for that in the Axis Calibration.  Do both.  I had an axis that I'd turned off in Axis Assignment and weirdness was happening I couldn't figure it out.  I finally lucked across the fact that I didn't reset the axis settings in Axis Calibration back to default.  When I did, poof, the problem was solved.  I have no idea why that was necessary.
