Re-engaging disconnected autopilot

Recommended Posts

I have accidentally disengaged the autopilot was investigating various operations on the 747.  I have yet to figure out how to re-engage it.  I have tried using the "Z" key, the buttons on the dash, and the yoke button.  I keep keeping the siren going off and the message "autopilot disconnect" on the display.  The manual covers the "autopilot disconnect" occurrence but does not really say how to recover, unless I have missed it completely.

What is the proper procedure for re-engaging the autopilot?

Thanks.

Press one of the CMD buttons over on the far right of the AP. Keep in mind, however, if you have realistic AP engagement enabled (mentioned in the intro), you also need to hand the aircraft over the AP in trim, with no forces being applied to the yoke.
