unusual request: lean model

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

You can see my specs below, and so far the 744 is running very fluidly on my setup. I was wondering, however, if it is possible to have an alternative "lean" model, i.e. without the interior etc. to even further improve performance.

I was also wondering whether it would be possible to create an alternative cockpit without seatbacks. That would make it easier to use camera add-ons such as EZdok and TrackIR. The way the 747 cockpit is laid out, you have to zoom out quite a bit if you want a wide view. Or you find yourself behind the seatback.

Best,

Holger

The interior is pretty low detail already. The amount of performance gain you'd get here is pretty negligible, particularly compared to the real frame hogs: scenery and weather (particularly weather if you're using a lot of 3D clouds).

You can remove the headrests. All the same, if you're moving your viewpoint that far back, there's something wrong with your methodology. Zoom levels should be somewhere around 0.7-1.0 for the most realism, provided you've set WideViewAspect properly. A lot of simmers assume you want to have a very wide angle view of the flight deck, but in reality, you want to set it up like you're looking through a picture frame the size of your monitor while sitting in the real plane. Granted, there's a small amount of personal preference added in there, but if you're fully behind a flight deck seat, then there's something wrong with how you're setting your view, or how you're expecting it should look.
