VAS at FSDT KLAX

Recommended Posts

Weill,

My first flight, which I use for every new aircraft I get, is from KEDW to KLAX. I did manage to land before the memory crash, but just barely. I only have this issue at KLAX with the PMDG 777 and now the 744V3. I do wish someone he would listen to would tell Umberto there is something wrong with KLAX. I have tried, but it is NEVER an FSDT issue. Sigh...........

Do you have ORBX SoCal?  I have to turn off the ORBX scenery when operating out of KLAX, or I'll OOM.  IMHO, it's every bit as much about ORBX and the load of massive amounts of AI traffic in the LA basin as it is about the FSDT scenery.  KLAX with SCA (and possibly other nearby add-ons like LatinVFR KSNA) are a bridge too far.  With ORBX SCA disabled (using Scenery Config Editor) I can get in and out of there in FSX and P3D without an OOM.

Hey everyone,
Whenever using PMDG T7/747 coming to land at any airport, whenever flying between large airports, I restart FSX:SE before reaching TOD to refresh VAS. I only use FTX Global and AS16+ASCA, limit traffic to 10 only. Not only with FSDT airports.

I know, it is a pain but if not I might get the ding ding dong sound about VAS usage, might not get OOM but close to.

Cheers.

My initial test flight with any new aircraft is very similar - except from Victorville (KVCV) instead of Edwards. I fly to HEC to intercept the RIVVR STAR, to an ILS 25L approach at FSDT KLAX.

I have no VAS issues doing this with the new 747. I land with about 900 MB free VAS remaining, which is actually better than the 777 on the same flight. I use Vector and OpenLC NA, along with the new version of FS Global Ultimate mesh.

Well, it's not an FSDT issue. I've flow into FSDT LAX hundreds of times in the T7 and NGX and always have around 1gb of VAS left. I only run 1024 textures on scenery, clouds and water which provides ample space for complex addons. Maybe check your texture settings in the Addon Manager and use 1024 rather than 2048 or 4096 if you haven't already. Next is to turn down some settings like cloud draw distances, reduce autogen a tad, cut out some options in Orbx Vector if you use that, and use DXT format clouds at 1024 rather than 32bit cloud sets.

You only have so much available space that you need to manage it better to avoid OOMS.

Do I really get to issue a verbal warning to an AVSim mod for not signing his posts on the PMDG forum?

Can I PUHLEEEEEZ just slip a 2 day access ban in there for fun?

Pay me $50 i'll make it 3 days so you can have the WHOLE weekend off from moderator duties.  :P

Well,

If no one else is having issues with FSDT LAX, then I owe Umberto an apology. I do not have the above mentioned items on my computer. I suppose its time to do a search of SoCal and find the culprit.

Lol, sorry about that. I can't believe I forgot as I thought it was in my sig. Ironic because I'm usually reminding people to sign their name in the PMDG section. I went back and edited the post for good measure.

Btw, I can't give the $50 since I need to use it to by the Queen :-)

what i find helps a bit is if i stay inside the airplane during the entire FSX session. i believe that when you change to the outside view it increases VAS use.

a lot of times that is (especially at FSDT KLAX) when the sim is showing high VAS symptoms or even crashes, when i change to outside view at LAX. so from the moment you load the sim until you are parked at the LAX gate, do not go to outside view. then, when you do that after you park, you can probably change the view and have no problems at all. (tested this just today, EDDF-KLAX yesterday: with outside views at departure gate, taxi out, cruise, approach, and then at KLAX the plane was a skeleton when i arrived - so i must have been very close to 4GB; today: no outside view until arrival, switching to outside view at KLAX, and no problems with that. i could watch GSX get to work; both flight with same parameters including wx.)
