Is REX coming to XP 11?

Recommended Posts

well they better hurry up cause unless they already have something on the burner, SkyMaxPro and xEnviro are getting quite a bit ahead.

If it's true then that's a good sign of other payware developers showing interest in the X-Plane platform. But after the Orbx debacle I really don't feel like getting my hopes up only to have them burned to the ground. If FSX addon developers are really serious about supporting X-Plane, they really should be upfront and not cryptic about it. Because to do so hurts the developers who are currently developing for X-Plane. Since REX doesn't have anything to show it's pretty much vaporware, and should be treated as such.

Roger that.  If they come, I know they can help X-Plane become better...but as it is, X-plane is already better without them.

"Timest999 so can I assume that you guys are actually going to  be developing for Xplane 11 or is it just a "thought""

"Yes, that is the plan, however the 'Force' product line is our top priority for our team right now."

Excellent news from Rex

I don't know how interested i would be.

xEnviro already does what REX would do and there is a developing plan out there for additional features.

I don't exactly feel the need to have REX in here, especially since all their know how comes from FSX/P3D which also uses 2d clouds.

There's always need for competition, prices get lower, more features introduced to enhace existing products...look how it ended up with SMP with no competitors. V3 and V4 are the same old soup with slight improvements, at least for me and for liner pilots.

REX has a decent background in weather management to can push further what we currently have in XP.

It isn't too far fetched to think they would consider developing clouds for X-Plane 11. They have already done so in the past, for X-Plane 9.

I wouldn't mind a set of decent hd tree textures which probably would sell like hot cakes and wouldn't take years to develop.

Don't worry about the ORBX buffoonery. That was just bad marketing. ORBX won't develop for X-plane because nobody would buy hundreds of dollars worth of scenery when you can get it for free.

And that would be awesome since I got my FSX clouds from REX for half the price of Skymaxx and they actually looked like clouds and included a weather engine.

Well,I don´t think that they would only sell a simple set of HD textures. They wouldn´t really work without procedures, when to use which texture.

But it would certainly be a much smaller problem for Rex, than for Orbx.

Still they have lot of airports to port with not a great effort.

The point for me is that major companies like ORBX, 29Palms, PMDG, Taxi2Gate, Rex, ...have to loose a lot with a massive risk of seeing their chciken for the golden eggs dying too fast. They went through high investment with multi years budget. What if a huge percentage of their potential customers moved suddenly to Xplane? Farewell to those cash cows aircrafts and scenery portfolios built in the last decade and few people to but their new products since developing for a new platform takes time. What do you sell in the meantime?

There could be even some sort of agreement behind the scenes waiting to see what PR3D4 will be. Take PMDG, do you think they could have a top seller like 747 V3 if they announced a version for Xplane? So eventually that will come, but commercially speaking must be a

slow transition.

Can't see the wisdom of buying a $150 PMDG 747 for a VAS inducing platform at 32 bits. I suppose if P3D ever moves to 64 bits the customers will have to pop for another 150 plus dollars. XP11 is where it's at and I am certainly prepared to pay for something like the 747 PMDG where I don't have to worry about VAS deaths. I have had to disable all ORBX stuff just so I can get fps and the memory to fly from one payware airport to the next with P3D. XP11 is pure sim heaven now.
