P3D - crashing after 4-5 hours with PMDG

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I am a little bit frustrated at the moment because I am not able to complete any long flights without a crash.

Problem: If I am flying PMDG 747 or PMDG 777, after 4-5 hours, P3D stops without any input from my side and I have no idea why.

I tried reinstalling the complete system and tried the same flight again (done with T7 and 747) and after 4 hours, P3D stopped working.

Because I was interested if this is a potentional SIM or WIndows issue, I did the same flight again with another Aircraft and do not get any errors. Whole flight completed without error.

I will not say, that the PMDG Aircraft is causing the error, but I don't know where to start searching.

First i thought, its caused by FsPassengers, but after the reinstallation, I only installed the scenery and Planes (EDDF, KLAX and ORBX) and started the flight again - same issue. Crash after 4 hours.

That is the error which is given by Windows:

Name of corrupted application: prepar3d.exe, version: 3.4.22.19868, time stamp: 0x588f7cbf

Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 10.0.14393

Asus Rampage V Extreme

Intel 5930k @ 4,4GHZ stable (never had a Problem with it)

G.Skill 16GB 2133 DDR4

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 - Driver 378.57 (but I also tried it with 376.60, same issue)

Sim is on an Samsung EVO SSD.

Driver are all the latest which I found.

P3D - latest version 3.4.22.19868.

I don't really know where to start searching or what I can do to prevent my Sim crashing if I am using PMDG Aircrafts.

On shorter flights, (with NG 737) no Problem at all, Problem or better the crash only happend after 4-5 hours flight.

Many thanks for help!

Cheers

BTW: I am not able to reset my Password for the PMDG Support Ticketsystem. No mail received. :)

Cheers,

Sounds like an out of memory error, or you're running something in the sim that isn't compatible with that version of the sim (usually an add-on, like orbx libs, the couatl addon manager, etc).

For the out of memory issues, please see the section in the intro manual discussing it.

Hi Kyle,

thanks for quick reply!

I can exclued an OOM crash because if the crash happend, free VAS was more than 1GB (shown in P3D and in Chaseplane) :)

This crash happend to me also in P3D 3.4.18.19475 with PMDG aircrafts, where all the Addons I was using where compatible.

The strange thing is, with any other AIrcraft doing the same flights, no crash at all :-/

Is there any known Add-On which is not compatible with PMDG and causing crashes?

BR

Hi I've just had something similar happen on a Heathrow to San Francisco 3hrs into the flight over the Atlantic with time acceleration used.

My VAS level was at 81% and holding very steady. P3D - latest version 3.4.22.19868. Latest addon manager and GSX update, AS16 & ASCA version 6239, no ORBX installed.

I suffered through an episode of kernelbase.dll errors when my current workstation was a new build, well not from the first boot but within the first couple weeks.

They stopped occurring after I did a thorough clean up of the NVidia driver files. I discovered this from on line research. You have to remove all NVidia files and folders, and to do that you need to start windows in safe mode because a couple of files are used by the OS even if NVidia is uninstalled. Once cleaned, install the NVidia driver you trust and for me my problem stopped.  There is no practical way of knowing if this will help you, but we agree that it has to be something at a low level like a driver to effect the OS kernel.

Matthew, a ntdll.dll event is not the same as the kernelbase.dll although similiar in that it is a low level module and it is hard to isolate.

Hi Flyinggok (real names required in this forum) I'm using the same card and driver as you, I'm going to try a clean up of the nVidia driver files as Dan mentioned and see if that helps.

I'll report back when I'm done.

I'm still on 372.90 because I don't update every one they release. Maybe twice a year seems to work for me.

Having the same issue! Happened three times in a row flying over the Pacific from YSSY/VHHH to KLAX and back. Always happens around 5 hours of flight.

Using Windows 10 and Nvidia drivers 376.33. VAS was not an issue and ORBX California was deactivated.

I´ve done a long flight with the FSL Airbus and did not experience this.

Hi all,

thanks for commenting this articel.

"Glad" to hear, that I am not the only one who is having this issue

The strange thing and question is, why is this exactly happening after those hours and not straight away. Hm.

I did also a clean removal of my nvidia drivers and reinstalled it.

Will test it on weekend if its working.

EDIT:

Just an Idea I had while talking with a colleague.

Guys, are you all using Active Sky 2016 ?

I will give it a try today without active sky - probably there is an error durhing the weather updates after those hours. Just an idea.

Cheers,
Bernd🌈✈️

  • ntdll points more toward driver issues
  • Kernelbase usually points to add-on program oddities (orbx libs, couatl scripting / add-on manager not being a compatible version, FSUIPC being too old, etc)
  • MSVCR120 points to a dll we don't even compile against, but is triggered by extension if you pop up the capt side PFD or ND (something LM will need to fix in their method - this wasn't an issue in v2.5 and early versions of v3.x)

Thanks for the heads-up Kyle, I'll try and clean up my drivers this weekend and see if it helps, a bit busy with work at the moment.

Quite clear Kyle, thanks, but the strange question is, why this only happens if we are flying a PMDG Aircraft and only after 4-5 hours and not after 1 hour :-/

Is there a way to get a better log out of the sim what is causing the crash?

Cheers,
Bernd🌈✈️

My mate had this, I had it with the 777.

Have you used migration tool and have vistamar.dll (aerosoft) enabled??

If so disable it, it can cause problems.
