Conflicting AI flightplans, too many AI BGL files or ju...

Featured Replies

I'm an avid collector of AI aircraft and flightplans (sometimes I even get to fly myself!).I have hundreds of AI BGL files, mostly from MRAI, and a couple of BGL's of my own making, typically covering cargo and charter flights which were never available from MRAI.They are calling a mix of repaints, mostly Aardvark and FSPainter but still some from PAI and recently from CDAI and EvolveAI I have also started to add the Ultimate GA series. Some of these BGL's are big files - Delta, American and United, plus a couple of the Ultimate GA are over 3mb in size EACH. Total size of the traffic BGL's is 90mb.This worked without problems until recently, when I started to get CTD's and latterly difficulty in loading FS9 at all - after "Fly Now", Scenery and Traffic appear to load properly but then I get a CTD before I actually get to the airport, as it were. Having reinstalled FS9 methodically from scratch, I'm sure the problem is in my AI files. What's more, I have got to the point where adding just one more AI BGL kicks off the CTD's.There is nothing wrong with this file itself because if I take all the others out and just run that one file by itself, everything loads perfectly. So either it somehow it conflicts with other files (unlikely because it worked OK before) or I've reached some kind of limit for the amount of AI - probably in terms of file size rather than number of files.I have a Pentium 4 3.6ghz with 3gb of ram, so crunching capacity ought not to be problem. Has anybody come across this before? Any setting I can change to give the traffic loading process a bit more room?

I've heard some what I would call rumors about large numbers of traffic BGLs. You might consider using AI Trafic Manager. The "project" function makes it easy to merge a large number of MRAI or other flight plans together, and still make it straightforward to update a single airline as required. I combined all my US domestic national carriers into a single bgl, for example.scott s..

Yes I wondered about that too - had some ideas regarding recent major AI releases, but managed to load them prgressively without causing the crash.I now have the situation where all of the MRAI files work OK, but if I load either my charter or my cargo BGL (both fairly large, >2mb, but previously perfectly OK) I get an immediate crash on loading. If I remove them it stops (or seems to).As there isn't any cross-over of repaints within those two files, it suggests the size of the total package is the problem.

Yes I heard rumours in the forums too. Thanks for the info, I may try that, but I suspect its file size not number.I will try adding one more small file rather than the large ones I have been doing and see if that causes the crash.

I've not seen any systematic testing to try and determine if there is an upper limit to the number of traffic files.Plenty of ancedotal stories - but no real testing.I've only run about 500 at once - but decided long ago that using ATIM's project feature would make file management easier.FS9 and AFCAD2 have really turned FS into a fulltime file management job.

I agree! All of my CTDs were related to corrupt aircraft texutre files.Only happens when the aircraft is displayed, even if it's 30 miles out on approach.Bruce

hiI currently have 842 different Traffic_XXXX.bgl files and have no CTD's when loading a flight.I used to have one huge bgl but it was hard to update the flightplans so I divided all my AI-Traffic into one airline per bgl file. The only downsize is that FS2004 takes around 5 minutes to load with all the textures and traffic files present. It was alot faster with just one Traffic.bgl.I sure hope there is no limit in adding AI-Traffic as I like to add alot of it as there is a limit in adding 1093 (verified) sceneries in FS.Jani

Trouble is of course, we all download so many! Had my suspicions on certain repaints for a recently released, high profile, AI aircraft! Will try eliminating those again!

I thought I'd update this post in case anyone with the same problem came across it.Bearing in mind the comments about corrupt aircraft texture files, I set all my AI aircraft to show in the "Select Aircraft" section of "Create a Flight" to see if they all displayed properly even at thta stage.I came across a couple of minor discrepancies early on: a B734 texture set up in error in my B735 folder, an Aardvark B721 with JT8D engines incorrectly set up in their Tay engined model.I also found that only about two thirds of my 60 B735's were displaying - at some point I'd messed up the fltsim sequence so that it went 38, 39, 41.I fixed these minor problems, loaded ALL of my traffic BGL's, including the previously troblesome ones and hey presto, no more CTD's (fingers crossed)

Can't say what your problem is, but I haven't had a single CTD since I fixed the broken aircraft.cfg files as described above.

Just FYI, the first woai emirates package also had a (texture?) problem which made my computer crash at startup. They quickly released an updated version. After I removed the old file and installed the new one, the problems were gone.

I had the same problem last week after I tried to update AI aircraft in Ultimate Traffic. After the update whenever I would be about 20 above touchdown point all the instruments would freeze and the a CTD related to FE.dll. After posting for help in the forum I received the advice that it was most likley a problem with an AI texture. I uninstalled and reinstalled Ultimate Traffic and no more problem. I don't think there is a limit on AI aircraft but unless you keep track of each and every install then sooner or later you'r gonna get the CTD. Craig

I uninstalled and did a fresh instll of UT. Then when I did an UpdateI DID NOT SELECT to update ALL (Like I did earlier).I selected only the airline AA and even then picked only the major two aircraft operated by AA.I then assigned those to all AA's aircraft. I am ok with it for now.MannyIts that Update everything ..that did me in.
