Flying with live traffic!

Recommended Posts

This would be perfect if....

Like I mentioned earlier, I think this is incredible, but I wish it did one thing...

I wonder if it would be possible to turn it off and switch back on AI within P3D when on the ground without the sim crashing.  I tried it a couple of times but no luck.  It would be awesome to fly with live atc, but have the option to turn MT6 or UT2 back on as needed, particularly on the ground from time to time.

Other than that, awesome program and thanks for putting it out there.

So short story - I found this post a week or so ago, read the first few posts briefly, couldn't figure out what it was a moved on.  Today I decided to read further and I'm glad I did!  I'm extremely impressed by what this is capable of doing!  I followed the instructions and had everything up in about 10-15 minutes or so.  Not terribly difficult - just don't skip any steps!

Quick question - I'm only having an issue with parking positions.  I ran the tool and only finds about 677 worthy to create airport files for.  Is there something I'm missing?  I figured there'd be a little more than that detectable to create positions for.  Minimum parking positions I set down to 5 and got only 1166 returned.

Performance:

I ran a few quick (and basic) tests as some people were raving about performance.  Since I had to see it to believe it - I ran some comparisons between MT6, UT2 & PSX (utilizing both UT and MT models).

All flights were setup at JFK on Rwy 13L with Cold Fronts as Weather, in the NGX, at 12:00.

Test #1 (UT2):

Sliders set to 80%.

FPS: 24-28

VAS: 3,457,516

Slew Mode: 2,000 ft looking down: FPS: 25-27 VAS: 3,458,356

Test #2: (MT6):

Sliders: 30% Airliners, 25% GA

FPS: 22-23

VAS: 3,645,004

Slew Mode: 2,000 ft looking down: FPS: 25-28 VAS: 3,656,720

Test #3 (PSX)

Sliders: 60% Parking (About 28 parked at this time)

FPS: 31-35

VAS: 3,390,784

Slew Mode: 2,000 ft looking down: FPS: 41-44 VAS: 3,473,520

So - at least for me, there is a dramatic improvement in frame rates and VAS using this utility to inject your traffic.  Granted I did see some of the bugs others saw, again based on the data it's receiving.  Maybe there's a way to smooth out the data somehow so there isn't stop and go taxiing, with dramatic movements?  Anything I saw in the air was simply flawless!

Nico - thank you for your contribution to this great community - excellent work!  If you have a donation link somewhere I'd like to buy you a beer!  Now I'm off to do some flying!

Windows 7 - Update on the issues.

Just to let everyone know that I rolled back to an earlier time to try again to find the culprit for W7 issues.  I had been installing updates in batches and had about 125 installed with PSXseecon still working.  Last night I had just 26 to go.....mostly Windows security updates....I batched them into groups of 10 and finally hit a group that killed PSXseecon.  I have set a restore point and had taken a screenshot of the updates installed so tonight I will revert and try again.  Hopefully this leads somewhere but not sure yet that it will.  I will keep all posted.

Mark,

Thanks so much for your efforts! I'm puzzled with this issue.

I think I have the same problem with "World Terrain" on which I was supposed to beta test and never been able to: only see the main window drawing less than half a second and close.

I have 11000 and still life is not perfect... After a session the log file contains an overview of the liveries you are still missing.

Matching proces, see manual section 5.17:

"The livery generated for the aircraft is chosen in a best effort matching process. First a match is tried based upon airline and type, then airline and similar type, then type only, then similar type only, and at last a default aircraft is randomly chosen out of the available default livery candidates. "

The percentage parked, has no effect on the matching process as such, but indeed it will  make more clear what you miss. ...

Nico

Dear Nico,

Would you mind sharing your eham.txt here? I modified mine last night, but in the log I see a lot of non existing liveries, such as an Air France C208 for example. I think I get on how the missing liveries are generated.

Many thanks for this great tool,

Arjen

As I'm looking in my log, there is quite a bit of work done for each aircraft to figure out substitution and other things, maybe that creates a stutter.(?)

When I limit to 10 miles I am definitely missing many aircraft going by.

That work is nothing for todays cpu, PSXseecontraffic does not consume more than 1 or 2% cpu time.

The horizontal limit to 10 nm option is only active when you are at the ground, not in the air. In the air it is 40 nm.

I think the stutters are caused by something else, most people do not complain about that.

The airport file depends on what scenery you are using. I use Fly Tampa EHAM which is different in parking positions from Aerosoft EHAM.

I did not modify my EHAM.txt, you can easily generate it yourself with the ParkPosGenerator.

Succes,

Nico

Goedemorgen :-)

Yes, me too. With the southern afcad applied. I did modify mine by removing similar aircraft types from some gates, which resulted in less missing liveries. But still there are a lot of missing liveries in the log file of combinations which do not exist in real life. I am just wondering if I am on the right track, or missing something.

Cheers,

Arjen

Agreed!

It took me not more than a few minutes to figure the program out and a few hours of tinkering with my airport txt files to get the parked planes I wanted. I can not understand how people flight sim without being able to complete simple tasks on a computer

A bit demeaning and if your so much more intelligent than all the others on here struggling to get this to work then why don't you make us a youtube video tutorial? I am sure you know how to do that.

I would not press Nico in any way for a video tutorial or anything else. Please keep in mind, he invested hours and days over a long time into that wonderful program and makes it available for free where others ask for money for much more trivial tools.

He provides a written tutorial which may be a bit intricate, but it's well-structured and not rocket science (look into the FSUIPC manual for comparison!) but just what is required to get you going.

I have seen other freeware developers giving up being frustrated by demanding users, and just keeping their jewels for themselves. I feel we should not come to that point but rather thank Nico for his generosity -  including the extended support he provides here as well as in the other forum.

Kind regards, Michael

I hope this can help for the developer and If I have missed some step let me know.

Thank's for bring this utility up.

Thank you for your kind words Michael.

And to all: remember that English is not my mother tongue, so apologies for some strange sentences you might see in the Manual.

Nico

Here the log:

I hope this can help for the developer and If I have missed some step let me know.

In the log I see no strange things.

What is the number of live aircraft in PSXseeconTraffic window? Is it 0?

Nico

Cannot it be that there is no aircraft with your range? Unselect the vertical and horizontal  limit checkboxes.

And are the settings in RealTraffic according to the ones in my Manual?

Ok i find what I was missing in setting of RealTraffic the two first checkbox sorry my bad.

Now all is working apart some cargo at gate even after create the parking file for EHAM do you now how can we edit so no fright at gate?

thank's I fill like a kid at the airport.

By the way if you also think to implement this in euroscope could be really interesting for amatory atc controller, I do control on  Vatsim as approach but having this utility with Live ATC. could be really immersive and also a good training tool.
