Iron for sale - where do you look?

Recommended Posts

I have a question that maybe someone can answer? When a airline mothballs a fleet of aircraft and ends up storing them in the desert, how do other airlines around the world know that airline "x" has aircraft for sale? Where are the aircraft advertised "for sale" so the rest of the world can buy them? Is it on the Internet? If so, what site?Anyone know?

There are numerous private firms trading aircraft of various sizes world-wide. If you are on the market to buy something you go to those firms and they will find you whatever you want and your budget allows. And most likely (these days) the aircraft will belong to a lease company that will know what it has in stock when someone comes along asking to lease something and it doesn't have to be new if they get a discount.Of course the airline world isn't all that large. Many airlines will also themselves be on the lookout. Say airline X wants to buy some used 737-300s. They find out airline Y is replacing 10 of those with 737-800s next year, they contact airline Y and start talking about buying them.
