Multiple Scenery

Recommended Posts

Hello.

I am having issues with default scenery still present on top of add on scenery, like I can still see taxiways and jetways from default scenery. Anyway I can remove that?

Assuming you have the add on scenery at a higher priority, it would appear whoever created the add-on didn't exclude the default airport in the design of their airport blg. You could look through the addon scenery folder and make sure no blg's are .OFF or .inactive especially one with EXC or the like in the name. You could also use AirportDesignEditor to add an Airport Background exclusion poly yourself, the green poly option.  Draw a poly around the airport and pick exclude airport background, possibly even with flatten as well to be sure you don't see issues with elevation like terrain popping through.

Check if you have any duplicate addons for your airport, you can use simple airport scanner:

http://www.scruffyduck.org/simple-airport-scanner/4584282795

You should only ever have one addon scenery active for a given airport. The reason is that addons only exclude the default airport, they don't necessarily have the needed exclusions for any other non-default airports.

You can unknowingly end up with duplicates as a result of installing AI traffic addons which include modified AFCADs, or Orbx regions, Ultimate Terrain etc.

To make matters worse, some addons put altitude corrections files in a global folder like Scenery\World\Scenery so you might need to look out for duplicates there also.

A little off topic here, but I saw the suggestion for SimpleAirportScanner and downloaded it.  Ran it for both FS9 and FSX.  FSX had no duplicate airports.  FS9, being the older of the two and the one with many, many addon sceneries, had several duplicate hits  Those I took care of.  What surprised me was a caution at the beginning of the report that it could not find three active folders (areas) that I had deleted from my addon scenery library several months ago.

I began looking through the scenery config file and discovered, despite deleting them in the settings/scenery library tab, the were still present in the areas list and still listed as active.  I then discovered there are actually two files for FS9 called "scenery.cfg"  One is located in the USERS/Randy/appdata/microsoft/fs9/ folder and the second is located with my fs9.exe file in C:\Microsoft Games\flight simulator 9\ (I do not have it installed in the default "program files" location).  This second scenery.cfg file appears to be the one FS9 "reads" to load my sceneries.  Those three deleted folders do not appear anywhere in this second scenery.cfg file.  The actual folders themselves, as I said, have been gone for quite a while.

Two scenery.cfg files?  Is that proper?  Check your install and see if you don't have the same.  If you do...well, if you do then I don't know which one to point to or why deleted folders still show in the first one.
