Hi,

I am running FSX SE at 3840 x 2160 resolution on a 40” monitor using a 980ti locked at 30fps, runs quite smooth with setting adjusted reasonably high, obviously a bit of stuttering in very busy areas but generally ok, and looks very stunning at that resolution.

I appreciate FSX is cpu bound and I am using a 6700k overclocked to 4949 GHz, but my question is the 980ti 6 GB Video memory, and I know it is pure speculation but when (and if) the 1080ti comes out and has 12 GB or even 10GB of video memory, would that help with the resolution I am running?

Many thanks

Steve

What kind of frame rates are you getting?  Does a 40" UHDTV kil frame rates on a high end computer??

I am looking to buy a 40" UHD TV.  I have the new 7700K CPU OC to 5 Ghz and a Titan X Pascal card.  I see a Samsung 40" UHD TV  for $449 and a newer model for $549.  The newer one has High Dynanmic Range which they claim gives brighter colors.   Will it make a difference in P3D?

Use one of the video memory monitoring programs to see how much you are currently using.

Even with 4K I doubt you will see more than 5GB in use.

P3D will utilize your hardware much more effectively.

P3D can easily use all 6GB.

What kind of frame rates are you getting

Hi Paul,

I have a Philips BDM4065UC and with Trackir the cockpit looks fantasic, with Frame rates locked at 30 in fsx se, Using these settings :-

Level of detail : Large

Mesh Complexity : 100

Mesh Resolution :  5m

Texture Resolution : 7cm

Water Effects : low 2x

Land detail : Checked

Scenery Complexity : Normal

Autogen Density : Normal

Special effect detail : High

Lod 6.5

Texture max load 1024 (to stop OOM)

Using PMDG NGX, Orbx Global, Vector, Openlc Europe, UK2000 airports and rex, general flying quite a solid 30 frames and very smooth and looks stunning, UK 2000 airports may drop to 25 - 28 but flying around London can drop to around 16 - 18 for a short while, which is why I asked the question, my main problem is if I up the settings much higher I can soon get OOM, so with your set up you should get equally as good, if your Titan x makes a difference then better.

Use one of the video memory monitoring programs

Thank you gb I will have a look for one and try

Thanks David,

If and when P3D goes 64bit then I will defiantly make the move

Many thanks

Use one of the video memory monitoring programs

Hi gb,

looks like you have the answer, I have just done a 45 minute flight from middle of the UK to the south going over London and using Nvidia Inspector sensor monitoring, I used:

Memory Clk Max 3645MHz

Men Usage Max 1880MB

so if I'm reading that right then not even used 2GB of memory at my current settings, so more is not going to help.

Thank you very Much

Steve

I find that my 980ti hardly gets out of first gear with 4K even with the most heavy duty sceneries and aircraft.  I get the impression that when it comes to fps (at least for FSX classic) its about 90% cpu (in my case 4770K @ 4.5) no matter what the gpu.
