Sync Baro HPA or IN for CAP & FO & IFSD

Recommended Posts

Was wondering if we can opt for the convenience of an all-in-one switch for the Captain, FO and ISFD baro measurement - where choosing either HPA or IN will change all, rather than having to manually change each?

eg: have a menu item in the same area in the CDU -> Options -> Simulation -> page 4 where we get to choose if we'd like to snyc the Cap/FO/standby baro.

Thank You!

Steve

He's talking about syncing for HPA/IN, not QNH/STD which is what we already have.

Spot On Tom - that's precisely what I'm saying.

Now waiting on someone at PMDG for their feedback.

It doesn't already do this? Interesting. I wasn't aware of that. I thought that would have been tied in with the other thing, so I'm surprised it didn't already do this.

It already does this. At least it does on my system - I just verified it. I have the option to sync Captain/FO/STBY altimeter settings under the OPTIONS\SIMULATION menu.

If I manually adjust the pilot's altimeter setting knob, All THREE units change in unison. Likewise if I adjust the copilot's altimeter setting.

It works equally well in either in/hg or HPa modes.

And, of course, if I hit the STD button on either the pilot or copilot sides, all three units sync to STD pressure of 29.92/1013

This is using an aircraft with analog standby instruments. I have not tried it with an aircraft with a newer all-in-one IFSD.

That's not what he's talking about. He's talking about syncing the large rotary knob that selects between inches of mercury and hectopascals. Those you have to switch separately on each instrument.

I suppose they could implement that, but it seems that might be taking "convenience" a bit far. The in/HG vs. HPa choice is pretty much a "set once and forget it" sort of thing. About the only time one would need to change it in flight is when flying to or from the USA/Canada. The synchronization of the actual altimeter setting itself makes sense as that often has to be changed during high-workload parts of the flight, like approach or departure, where maneuvering around the VC can be distracting.

But, if PMDG is willing to add such an optional feature, by all means...

Given it is a product suggestion and not a technical problem, is contacting PMDG via a ticket still warranted?

I was hoping that maybe Kyle would chime in here and either pass it on for consideration or burn it down here and now......
