Lighting system

Recommended Posts

This is probably a stupid question, but why do the ALS lights not light up at night. I see a lot of them modeled but don't light up. Just the PAPI lights. Even a lot of 3rd party airports have great detailed lights but don't light up. Just curious if I'm missing a setting or something.

I have never noticed any airport ALS or "Running Rabbit" lights not working at night.  Have you gone through your

settings and made sure sliders like Global Texture Resolution are set to max?

Got this under [Display] in your FSX.cfg?

RUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=1.2
RUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=1.0
RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=1.2
RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=1.2

These are not tied to the resolution setting, but would be controlled via the Special Effects slider.

If they are modeled with the physical stands and not lighting up then it would be a question for the developer of the scenery and could be tied to Scenery Complexity or Special Effect sliders not being set high enough, or possibly a DX10 issue if your using DX10 with a scenery that isn't DX10 compatible

The other thing is default airports don't have physical models for them but are tied to the AFCAD.

So maybe it's possible that the payware airports that they are not working at could have a duplicate AFCAD that is preventing them from working.

What specific airport/developer and runway do you have the issue and how many AFCADS are installed for that airport?

ISTR there is some requirement for when these show (the late JVile would be able to tell us immediately).  You might try going to custom weather and crank the surface viz down to a mile and see if they "turn on" .
