Unbelievable.....no one has mentioned PSA (Pacific Southwest Airlines grinning birds).  My first airline flight 727 San Francisco to Los Angeles in 1967.

Western Airlines....SF to Hawaii

Great for you to mention PSA. As a former ATC, they bring back many fond memories. Also, Pacific and Air Cal.

If we count mergers or brand change names:

- Aerorepública (DC-9-32). Merged into Copa Airlines. Brand no longer exists, but its callsign is still in use.
- Aces (ATR-42). Taken over by Avianca.
- SAM (Fokker 100). Merged into Avianca.
- Aires (DHC-8-200). Taken over by LAN (now LATAM).
- Austral Líneas Aéreas (E190). Merged into Aerolíneas Argentinas.
- LATAM Argentina (A320). Ceased operations because of COVID-19. All other LATAM subsidiaries survive.

I'm excluding all my TAM and LAN flights, obviously.
