50in or 55in or 60in Monitor all 4k - recomendations

Recommended Posts

I am looking to upgrade from a 40in 4k to a larger size monitor.

P3d and X-Plane11 are the sims I use most.

Thanks Nick

For me, at a viewing distance of ~3 ft (1m), a 55" 4K TV (a Samsung JS8500) was the biggest size I could use before screen pixellation became an issue.  That gets me display units >80% of life-size using the PMDG glass cockpits.

Also, the larger the screen, the more you have to be aware of the effects of washout due to off-angle viewing.  Even at 55", you need to be careful, as some of the cheaper 4K displays really lose their color saturation as you look away from screen center towards the L-R edges while seated close to the screen.

TV's are not monitors,  a 40" monitor cost a lot of money as a 40" 4k tv you can get very cheap these days.  color, pixel density, viewing angle, screen door effect and other features are just a few things to consider.

Bob - thanks for the reply, the JS8000 was the one I wanted to find but I could not find any place that has them, only have the KS versions.

Angel -  Sorry if I tried to confuse every one by saying Monitor when I should have said "TV as a Monitor"! I am already using a 40" TV as a monitor and I would like to Move to a Larger Size.

I moved up from a 40 inch Phillips 4K  monitor to a 49 inch 4K Sony TV for simming and need to sit about 30 inches from the screen to avoid seeing pixels.  If I went any larger and had to sit further away the glasses I use for screen work  would be out of focus. While I am very happy with the TV for simming I wouldn't want to use it as a full time PC screen - text just isn't clear enough even though the TV is Chroma 4:4:4.  Fortunately I still have the 40 inch monitor for that.
