LUA Friction

Recommended Posts

Hello,

What are the recommended values for the script in regard to the PMDG aircraft? Mainly interested in the 777 and 737 at this moment. Later on the 747 as well.

Not sure, but with the new 747, they've managed to overcome the ground friction problems so it taxies on lower thrust like a dream. So hopefully they can roll that feature back to the 777.

Hi,

I don't use any LUA friction script with the 747QOTSII as it taxies just find. Thrust around 30% to make it accelerate to 25-30kt, then idle for a while. it doesn't taxi at idle eternally but the speed decays very slowly so a little increase in thrust from time to time is way enough if there are long straight taxiways. Otherwise, no need.

For the T7 and the NGX, I use the default LUA dynamicfriction script which comes with fsuipc without modifying it. It is fine to my taste.

Not even if the Jumbo is lightweight? Not sure if this is super realistic, though.

I agree that it would be great if they update the previous planes with the "technology". :-)

I have flown mostly the -400F with GE engines with TOW ranging from 220T up to 320T until now and I didn't feel much difference in thrust requirement and taxi speed.

Don't take my words on that though as I didn't keep a record of these depending on the weight. It is just an impression. I was also a little surprised that during 90° sharp turns from 10kt, the speed doesn't really drop without and thrust increase. From the beginning of the turns to the end I must be losing maybe 1 or 2 kt at idle. I thought I would need more thrust to maintain the speed.

I'll try to pay a bit more attention the next flights but in any case, I won't use the LUA dynamicfriction as I expect I would have to keep the feet on the brakes almost constantly if I applied it on top of the 747 friction model.

With four engines on idle, the 747 will move along on it's own!  Hence the reason for the parking brake being applied after 'push-back'.

Seems reality has been ignored, here.

What do I need to do to get that to work in fsuipc? I have the latest version. Do I need to add a line into the fsuipc.ini file?

Gents,

In it's current iteration, the 747 will not commence motion on it's own regardless of weight.  This was an intentional design decision, because we wanted to bite off only digestible pieces of changing the entire physics model in order to keep risk to a minimum.

The model currently employs an accurate physical computation of rolling resistance that includes everything from surface type to tire pressure, tire temperature, and aircraft weight and residual thrust.

The entire model continues to be tweaked based upon data we are collecting from the simulation, and over time it will continue to expand and grow in realism.

This physics model is going to be moved back into the 777 for certain in the near future, but it hasn't been determined if we will move it to the 737 in this lifetime, or if we will invest the work for the eventual V3 of that product cycle.

Thanks, I just asked this question in the P3D forums.  Now if you have the LUA installed does the PMDG programming take precedence or does the LUA cause problems?  And if so, can it be selectively turned off when using the 744?

The LUA program patches the FSX/P3D internal tables that are used to compute friction in Sim1.dll--the lua can be selectively blocked by adding an empty [Auto.PMDG 747] section to fsuipc.ini

Hi,

You can have a look into the folder Modules in you sim folder and search for the pdf regarding the use of LUA script. IIRC it is explained there how to use the lua dynamicfriction script.

I cannot help more, I'm not home so I don't have access to my sim computer to check the lines in the fsuipc.ini.
