Rizen and Windows 10 Spyware !

Recommended Posts

JImm...to clarify, for myself, I have no issue with the EULA's and TOS's I agreed to with Microsoft or other software providers.  I  have issue with being labeled "having something to hide" because I choose to exercise my rights. I am content to cordially disagree on that.

TechguyMaxC....yessir, USA born and bred.  I concur it is a losing battle, but intend to go down swinging.  That's why the only Windows computer in the house (out of a half dozen) is the one used for P3D, which requires it, and only on-line long enough to authenticate.  Even has a single-purpose SSD.  Downloads, etc are funneled thru Linux computers, if possible.  Guess it's just what I do :-)

Interesting, I don't recall ever mentioning you specifically as someone with something to hide.  I personally take issue with someone accusing me of saying something I didn't say.  If my statements were not clear enough, then I would be happy to oblige.

"Most of the time, people who clamor over privacy, have something to hide." was your comment.  I objected to this as being overly-broad and not a demonstrable statement of fact.  I'm willing to let everyone draw their own conclusions as to the validity of all points made.

I learned a long time ago never to argue with people who enjoy it...it takes too much time.

Have a nice day!

Do you use Google, Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo etc. They have been collecting serious amounts of data about you for years - much more personal, in some cases. Microsoft is no worse than these (and many more like them). There are plenty of apps around that allow you to easily turn off ALL of the data-collection elements of Windows 10. You're no safer using Windows 7 - at least Windows 10 allows you to easily turn it all off.

Sort of, I use Firefox with Ghostery. Ghostery blocks web trackers. I don't want my OS tracking me on top of it.

GIven your ability to even spell the name of the processor. The legitimacy of this post (there was none to begin with) went completely out the window.  I wish I could get this time back.

Honestly, if you have nothing to hide and practice safe browsing and don't do anything illegal, what is the big deal?  Most of the time, people who clamor over privacy, have something to hide.  Windows 10 does make it easier to turn off features, though some can be stubborn, but there are apps to take care of that.  If privacy really is such a big issue, then don't go online. :)

That argument is Lame ! It's not anyones business what we do online ! Do you have curtains at home? Lets see your bank account records ? Whats your credit card number ? What kind of porn do you watch ? What are your Political associations ? Are you Christian, Jewish, Muslim ? What kind of meds are you on ? What kind of food do you eat ? I want to see your Facebook profile ? etc....

Imagine a future employer having access to all that info.

I imagine the NSA has a dossier on everybody. Being a constitutionalist under the Obama Administration probably put me on some kind terrorism watch list !

There was a Anti-trumper who tweeted yesterday and got fired by his employer today. I didn't agree with his tweet but what about free of speech ? In Europe there is a lot of self-censorship to be political correct. Getting into a argument about religion can be consider hate speech in Europe.

Phew... Do we ever read EULA's before installing anything? I bet that most of us do not. I've had me Windows 10 right from the early days. I never get spammed or anything else. I'm using Edge as well. I also have 2x Android tablets, an Android phone, as well as a Windows 8.1 phone. Yes, I can find out from Google exactly where I have been over the last few day.

Thanks to GPS tracking, we have recovered stolen phones. I also do not mind Google tracking me to the bathroom, & knowing how many times I dump a day. I'm not too sure how they will use that information. Maybe linking me to sites with nice smelling bathroom sprays & soft toilet paper?

Paranoia can be a ###### at times.

EULA's what's that ? lol, no.... Whats the alternative OS ? Apple hardware sucks &@($*, and Linux is pretty limited in software, so we are stuck with spyware.

Do you know the type of man power it would take if they actually were "spying" on you. I believe they have laid off thousands of employees recently. Telemetry and "spying" AREN'T THE SAME THING! If you're really worrying about that, you have too much free time.

Yes I agree, accusing someone of "having something to hide" simply because they value privacy and see it as one of our most important rights in society is silly to be honest.

We should look at the situation in the past and now, and then project into the future. If our basic right to privacy is being erroded then indeed that is something to worry about. Look to other nations where the right to privacy is non-existent, and then consider if we are heading the right way!

Yep, absolutely. We are walking on egg shells over here. Some of the stuff that goes on is unfathomably dumb. I'm somewhat to the left, but the regressive left have a lot to do with it, they have gone full circle and ended up extreme right. But oops... mustn't debate such things here, not the right place.

Hey Strider1...first, sorry about my part in the thread drift to this point.  Oops!

Second, you'd be amazed at the varied software available for Linux.  A fully- MS-compatible Office suite, for example.  Lacking are some 'professional' packages, for the most part.  Take a look...give the latest Ubuntu rendering a shot.  You can download to DVD to play with it, and never touches your hard drive.  Free!

My sim of choice is XP on Linux...pretty much the only thing we don't do on it are the GTN's (need the Garmin trainer to run), and my wife's C550 and Citabria.  I don't do many of the amazing things folks do with sims, though.  Mostly procedures and practice approaches.

I read some metrics that LR did recently.  It amazed me that Linux is only 1% of the XP user-base.  On the other hand, it's the only time I'll ever be a 1%-er :-)

No worries Jim, everyone is entitled to their own opinion !

X-plane 11 is the only sim I use, so I am going to give Linux a shot this weekend ! My only concern is 3rd party Addon support for Linux. I know X-aviation does not support Linux, but thats ok I don't really use any of their products. I am GA simmer anyways.

I guess I am going to be one of those wealthy 1% Linux users too ! lol......Worst case scenario I can just setup a dual boot system with Win 10 and Linux.
