Avsim website extremely slow

Recommended Posts

Hi:

Noticed today and also during the past days the Avsim website is quite slow for navigating and also for downloading files. Should it be because the forums new format/renovations or due to other factors?.

Cheers, Ed

They are slow.  We have 237 members logged on and 1330 guests checking out our great website!  That alone makes the site slow (I remember the night when PMDG released the 747).  Don't people work?    The site is also upgrading in the background and we are just 71% with rebuilding posts.  Then we go to rebuilding images, etc.  At 1 am EST, the site is super fast!!  Apologize for the inconvenience.  Hopefully the upgrade will be totally finished by the end of next week.

Best regards,

Jim

interesting ... wasn't this slow before the update/upgrade :-(

Correct, but this thread does have part of the answer as to why it is going a bit slowly - as Jim says just above us...

The software upgrade is performing background processes which imposes a load on the server hardware. When you combine that load with the normal course-of-business traffic that a popular site like AVSIM gets, you will have a slowdown. All told, I'd say the site is holding up quite well considering all the work that is being done behind the scenes.

I'd recommend holding back judgment of the site's performance until after all the background work is complete. Better to have the site operational but slow as it transitions to the new software instead of fully offline while it does the background work!

didn't read that this was going on anywhere else on the forum or on the front page ... makes sense and the forums i administer do the same thing during transition.

thanks for the clarification!
