January 1, 200620 yr I can testify that I was astonished, literally astonished when flying into this airport after having installed it. I was getting high teens to 20+ fps on approach and taxiing afterward, this with the PSS Airbus 320 panel AS6 weather partly cloudy, very dense scenery and dynamic scenery settings and 70% (non-PAI) AI traffic. My system is pretty modest as you can see.edit - I know fs setups vary greatly - my 70% AI could be your 30% for instance, but something is up with this scenery, something new - I now have great hope that fs can really start to come alive while maintaining good performance.regards,Markhttp://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a319/markrey/lsd2.jpghttp://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a319/mar.../sup_banner.jpgXPHomeSP2/FS9.1/3.2HT/1GIG/X700pro256 Regards, Mark
January 2, 200620 yr Sounds good guys. Jeff's vid is nice work indeed.Let's not forget those geniuses over at Flightscenery with their magnificent KPVD. Although it's a smaller airport, it always blows my mind as to how they get so much detail to run without one single stutter. January 2, 200620 yr From what little I have recorded in flight sim, I can say it killed my last computer (1600+ AMD ... had like 5 frames/sec with fraps running). Havent tried it with my newer system.I figure turning off all antialiasing, setting screen res to like 640 x 480 and setting 16 bit colour would help with frame-rates . If fraps records half-screen size, the reduced image will tend to smooth edges anyway (at leadt from what I remember when I tried)Downloading the movie now.
January 2, 200620 yr cool video ...smoother than my normal sim LOL.That moving highway traffic is really cool! (I wish for a totally frame-rate friendly traffic on roads in the next flight sim ....models would have to be simple boxes with simple textures and 2d bitmaps after a certain distance.
January 2, 200620 yr I nearly bought this scenery the other day (boxed CD version).I say almost because its one expensive package. I believe around $50 (CAN). Although it looks amazing, its a bit of a hard sell when you can get 4 Fly Tampa sceneries or one of the German Airports packs for the same price.
January 2, 200620 yr It's true about the price of add-ons nowadays. I was a little put off by the $55 for the PMDG 747, and the $35 or so for the Frankfurt scenery is a little much as well, but as the saying goes, "the market charges what the market can get". I don't have a problem with the price of these to be honest, if people buy them, more power to 'em.Now, as far as I could tell, the video was pretty silky to me. I'd take performance like that, maybe it was just my playback. It was played back on my laptop, a very new compaq with a Turion processor. I thought it looked great.I haven't checked out the Midway airport yet, unfortuanetly, Midway and Frankfurt are places I'd probably rarely fly into. If a Phoenix or Charlotte airport were done like this though........
January 2, 200620 yr BTW, most of the Fly Tampa airports also have moving traffic but not to the extent of this title. KSAN, KMDW and KSEA all have traffic moving around the airport as well as airport apron traffic.I picked Frankfurt up the other day for $33 along with the PMDG 747 from aerosoft for $58. Saved another 7% (worked out to free shipping) for using interact e-mail transfer. They have a "save 15% on two titles" deal going on. It came to just over $100 with shipping and taxes.XP Home SP2Asus P4P800-SE Intel 3.0GHZDDR 400 D/C 4x512MBLeadtek 6800GT 256MB (77.72)SB AudigyCH Products Yoke/Pedals USBSee you in the fence...CYYZ Al Stiff
January 2, 200620 yr Wow, I didn't know the flytampa sceneries had moving traffic. Maybe my dynamic scenery settings aren't high enough. I'll have to check that out, thanks.
January 2, 200620 yr Fly Tampa KMIA and KSFO don't have moving traffic, but Dubai does. There is an excellent freeware Adelaide international that has actual moving cars in the car parks and trucks moving along the highway surrounding the airport. This is probably the best freeware airport I have downloaded. Can't remember who did it, just to an avsim search for Adelaide international. But I gotta tell you I've never seen anything like this Frankfurt scenery, it is the best I have ever seen. I think the busy freeway did it for me, it got me very excited about the future of FS scenery. But I won't be making anymore FS8 addon purchases since I am going overseas soon. I think I will save my pennies up and prepare for FSX in terms of hardware (new system, speakers, yoke+pedals etc.) CheersTristan
