The new queen's first month

Recommended Posts

The new queen from PMDG has been available for a month now and boy what a month it was. I started flying her on day one scrapping a planned 777 flight. Since then I haven't seen another (virtual) cockpit for a while.

This new model is a huge improvement over the great but now outdated version I used to wrestle with in FS9. It's like they don't even belong in the same solar system anymore. I love the smooth intrumentation, the 3D cockpit, the shiny fuselage, all the details in the wing when it's flaps come down and so on and so forth. The attention to detail is incredible and I can only imagine how much painstaking work this must have been. But from a simmers view ... it was so worth it. So a big thank you to everyone involved to making this homage to the 747 possible. You guys did a phenomenal job.

Having ramped up almost 160 hours of 747 flight time in the new 747 since it's release I'd like to share some of these moments with you in the form of screenshots.

Catching the last rays of sun while approaching Phoenix. I've been on a 747 the first time when they still had this livery. What a classic.

Lots of ground activity in Bangkok surrounding the phenomenal plane. The official liveries are just unbelievable.

Leaving Frankfurt for one last flight in February. Back where it all started.

To me, there's no better or worse PMDG model in the current lineup. Both, the NGX and the 777 models are phenomenal and a true joy to fly. But as a 747 lover, this is the plane I wanted the most. And PMDG most certainly overdelivered on it's promises.

So once again. Thank you.

Very nice shots indeed Roman! Love the old BA livery!

Same here, the old lady is taking my entire sim time...and a certain A320 addon that has been released just a few days before is collecting dust in my hangar...

Reason is, when flying the queen it all just works...exactly as promised. Super smooth frames, easily manageable VAS usage, pratically no bugs and a gorgeous VC and external model. Everytime i spent some quality time with her i leave my simrig with a smile on my face.

Thats how i want to spend my precious sim time....

+1 as well...

Setting my sights on the 747-8 intercontinental and freight version.

But even without that addition I can live happily.

The 777-300ER add-on for the 777 base was burning a lot more for me to wait for.

How strange. But perhaps this was because the -200LR is not an -ER haha:biggrin:.

Hi folks,

For me it's all about the inside once airborne,,,,  being from the real world, in C130's, and B737's...for some 30,000 hours...

I was not able to step outside in flight.

Nice screen shots though, the Queen, is a beauty for sure.  I flew  100 hours over at Globe Cargo, in February the max. for a month, [FAA requirement] had to stop until the new month rolled around.

WoW! has it been a month already??? I'm with you...This Plane...It's...a work of art! I'm like a giddy schoolgirl every time I'm in the cockpit! So many details...Alas, A lot of my time has been taken up putting things in order on my new system. But I have taken some time off within the next few days...I will fly the skirt off this queen for sure!

How about some shots of my own Hmmm?

Really like this write-up Roman.   I think you capture nicely what we all love so dearly about our new investments in the sim world - yes that is exactly what it is to me, an investment!   For the first time in my simming career I am actually looking payware airports for the important destinations I fly to.   Something about this aircraft pushes me to the next level of immersion, which includes more realistic scenery!

Our VA has an old 707 cargo route which I used to fly frequently with the CS 707 aircraft, but the 747F has taken it over.   There are three flights in there, KORD-MMGL-MMMX-KORD.   The flight from MMGL-MMMX is only 276 miles so it is up and down but really puts the Queen through here paces nicely.   I did that one last night and will be returning to KORD this afternoon on the 3.5 hour flight from MMMX.

This weekend it is VHHX from KORD.   I have been eyeing the performance differences between the standard -400 and the -400ER and I am looking to put that extra range to use over the weekend as well cramming the extra bit of range out of it for an even longer flight.

2017 in the simming world started off really well - I always leave the cockpit with a smile as well...

Regards

Glad you guys like the shots. Thanks @Curtis Smith for sharing some of your own experiences. Great shots from inside :)

The cockpit is certainly worth sharing. I only left these shots out as most pilots are used to seeing this view for hours anyway. But @jfriz is right. No external view in the real world. I do sometimes make an effort not to leave the cockpit ... but during a long haul that's mighty hard.

Thanks guys for the shots from the work place.  How, about some low visibility coupled approach's.   That's were the pilot earns his keep..

Great shots..

A new month now so I am legal to fly another 100 hours.  I'll see if I can find a tough approach.
