If P3D were to go to 64 bit is 16gb of Ram enough or will I need more?

You'll need more. Much much more.

God... :males:

Can't you just wait for some time... it may not show up after all.

Hate to burst your bubble but, you know... you gotta be Prepar3d (TM). :xo:

Like G-Y wisely said... there's a life outside of the games. Sun is finally there. Assuming you're on northern hemisphere ofc.

FWIW, I did my recent i7-7700K build with 32GB (2x16GB DIMMs).  That's probably going to be enough, at least in the early days of 64-bit simming, but I can still go to 64 if needed by adding two more DIMMs.

Being 64bit doesn't make it suddenly use more RAM , it just allows devs to make more ram hungry addons... and of course no more vas concerns

fwiw I use XP11 beta and only have 8GB. As long as I'm not running the highest settings usage is around 6-7 GB (total for the pc). I do plan on going 16 soon.

Why are you bashing a guy for asking a simple question in a nice way. All he is doing is thinking of what comes next and what he might need. "God" your the one who needs a beer"!!!!

My next PC will be later this year probably after P3D v4 what ever time it comes out, 7700 @5 1080TI 16GB of very fast RAM , might and I will wait and see go for 32GB.

But I think 16GB will be fine.

Yeah, really strange answers to a legit question/thought...

I use X-Plane 10 64 bit for a few years now with 16GB of RAM. I run several apps in the background as well (web browser, ACARS system of a virtual airline), and I never ran into trouble. RAM usage can go as high as 80%, but I've never encountered an OOM.

That's just an observation with a 64bit flight sim. We'll have to wait and see how P3D will behave as a 64bit program. But my guess is, you should be good to go with 16GB of RAM.

I don't know but it seems like at the price for 32gb might as well give adequate space for any eventuality.

With 64bit my wish is for things to be coded to take advantage of extra ram if it's there. I'd imagine that being able to preload 20, 30, 40 gigs of textures into ram would be advantageous.

There is nothing wrong preparing for the future, let's say 10 to 15 years when v4 comes out.

I will consider myself very lucky if v4 comes out before I kick the bucket:biggrin: now v40 if my estimate is correct and going from the release of FSX in October 10  2006 and P3Dv4 releases this coming year and 1 version every 12y  - 36 x 12 = 432 years = in 2449.

i cant see how anything over 16 would really be utilized at least the first couple years of v4.. just think what could be done with double the VAS usage available now? what are we going to do preload 400 miles of hi res textures for no reason?
