I'm quite sure 32 of those 64 bits are pretty new from scratch...

I'm under the impression that P3D v4 will be just a recompiled 64bit version of the same old Aces Studio original FSX code, same for Dovetail both + a new lighting system and no new feature at all.

I have never had a single OOM error in years despite my 8 addons like PMDG, ASN, REX, Orbx, airports etc

I don't like XP11 so I hope P3D will introduce something new ( f.i. rain glass fxs ) otherwise there is no reason to move, above all because 64bits are slightly slower the their 32bits counterparts.

Sorry, this is plainly wrong

The "old Aces Studio original FSX code" indeed contained ancient code, including Assembly code. This old code has been reworked by Lockheed Martin in Preparation of the 64 bits transition over the last years already. DT must have reworked it in the same for their FlightSchool already to make it 64 bits. No state of the art 64 bits compiler could digest this.

I really would like to know many code lines of the original ESP rendering code are still used in Prepar3d, but I doubt it's much. They have rewritten all the shader code, included new libs like the triton lib. In addition they reworked the whole landclass distribution, a 1:1 comparison between FSX landclass and P3D landclass shows drastic differences (FSX with a general tendency to look a bit empty/plain, while the P3D landlass sometimes looks a bit overdiversified). Yes, there is old code in Prepar3d3, e.g. the airports and Nav data, but thats's just a portion (and I agree this is in urgent need for an update).

I highly suggest a search though the LM Prepar3d forum for details.

Kind regards, Michael

What product do you know of today that sells without listing at least one feature? Even if its a garbage product, it will have (a) selling point feature (s). Whether the consumer deems it worthy or not is up to them.

But Im pretty sure V4 is not just going to be 64bits and absolutely nothing else. The whole development is not cheap and to recoup those costs, means selling the product and you do that in part by selling it with new features. 64 bit will be a big deal to alot of people as more and more addons get more sophisticated using up more VAS. They already cut back on alot of things just because it uses up too much of the VAS. And sliders left is not the answer when we have very capable machines to run them right. Be it P3D V4 or DTGFS, it is expected they will be something shiny and newer. While thats not always the best, it still means forward progression. We like newer and better things. More efficient. If we didnt, the forums wouldnt get too excited when a new product is released, be it aircraft, scenery, or a new utility.

Hmm interesting... To be honest, I can't really imagine PMDG's planes being sold on Steam...

the problem is that I'm afraid I'm gonna win, where can I park that airplane? how can I maintain it? how much authority will ask me to pay to keep its airworthy certificate valid till I get my flying license renewed again?

I will skip and just wait for release news through normal channels with high anticipation.

I dont see it either. But then again, few years ago, they originally wanted nothing to do with Prepar3d.

I don't think it will be anywhere near that price. I paid $60 for v3.4. I would be surprised if the 64-bit Student version cost more than $100. if it did then I would have to consider carefully. Anyway, unless FS Labs rejigged Concorde to make it 64-bit compatible I would probably not bother.

32 bit addons will work in P3Dv4 (even if P3Dv4 is 64 bit).
