So, how is Sydney?  I've heard it's pretty hard on performance?

Seeing your specs I'd say you'll handle Sydney just fine. I am not sure if you are on FSX or P3D. I am on P3D with i5 6600K 4.2Ghz, 16 Gb DDR4 2666Mhz, ATI7870. My PC handle it just fine with 70 AI planes but I don't have Vector and I balanced my settings and not turning it all to the left. I also turn off all the heavy stuff from Sydney e.g 3D ramp personnel, etc.

It's actually pretty good, even with my old system (i5 2500k @ 4.5Ghz and a GTX770) I had surprisingly good framerates given the size of the airport.

For what it's worth, I have quite poor performance with Sydney (similar to the performance from FT's Toronto, if you have that one), at least with Orbx Australia activated. About 15 FPS in the cockpit of PMDG planes (this is with an 6700k @4.6 GHz and a GTX 1070). That includes disabling all the frame-heavy airport features.

You're not alone with that, @honanhal. In FSX, I'm now hovering around 10 FPS (initially, I had 17 or 18 FPS - but that was at a time when I had less add-ons installed) in Sydney - and, what is even more important: I have to watch very carefully not to run into an OOM when using demanding aircraft add-ons like the new PMDG 747 in Sydney. So VAS is an issue in Sydney, too. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful and very atmospheric scenery. So I can still recommend it.

I bought Sydney today right before the deal ended.

Tried a short flight in the PMDG T7 and FPS for me stayed between 25 to 30 FPS in the VC. I'm only running FTX Global in the area and no vector prodcuts or ORBX products for the area. Had UT2 at 75% traffic as well.

This was on FSX SP2, 2700K at 3.85ghz and a GTX670. I only turned off a few options and installed the 1024 texture pack. VAS and FPS are a non issue for me at this airport and glad I took advantage of the offer.
