Off Course

Recommended Posts

Having more fun with Pilot2ATC. I just did a flight from Phoenix to San Diego. While en-route I messed up an accidentally shut off the auto pilot. before long I was Off Course and ATC instructed me to turn to a heading. Instead of doing that I just turned on the auto pilot which made a turn toward the ATC Specified heading but not quite equal to it. Within a minute or two I was back on course with the FMS, however, Pilot2ATC kept telling me to turn to that heading. I thought at some point it would realize I was back on track but no such luck. So after a while I decided to just comply with the ATC heading request to see what it would do. I changed to the requested heading which took me way off the flight plan. After 4 or so minutes I gave up and asked ATC for a "direct to" the next way point in the flight plan. That got everything back on track.

Is there a reason why Pitlot2ATC could not detect that I was back on course originally?

I suspect you may have bypassed a waypoint while off course and P2A was trying to get you back to that waypoint.  The current version relies on you at least coming close to the waypoints in the Flight Plan.  Some improvement in this area is in the plan.

Using the DirectTo the next waypoint method you describe is probably the best way to get back on track.
