Hmmm, all quiet on the Russian Front...

I wonder when xEnviro 1.7 will show its face....  v1.6 seems long in the tooth, for how the dev's were implementing features and polishing, upto 1.6

I'm also getting a little annoyed by the delay. However, from reading the lead developer Andrey's facebook and forum posts, it seems like 1.07 will be a very big update- I think he's going to be resolving the '2D' look of the clouds that many people cite as a major weakness of the product. He said it's almost like building an entirely new plugin. While I understand that taking a lot of time, we aren't even at 1.1 yet. There are many smaller issues that should take precedence over completely redesigning the plugin. As for a timeframe, one of the devs stated he doubts 1.07 will be out before XP11's final release.

From an .org post I read, it looks like they're waiting for XP11 beta to wrap up and go final before they release the next version.

On the one hand, that's reasonable, considering Laminar are still making fairly drastic changes like the new clouds this late in the beta cycle. I don't think anyone knew the release would be delayed this long.

On the other hand, as hamoody mentioned above, there are plenty of glitches that wouldn't seem to be related to what XP11 is doing, that they could be patching in the meantime. A major one for me, is the way rain at ground level looks like a slate blue-colored solid block when you fly above that layer, and it cuts off suddenly. Totally unrealistic. I probably won't be using XEnviro as my main weather plugin in the long term, due to the lack of custom user settings. But I do want to see what 1.7 looks like anyway. Or any intermediate patch that fixes things like that rain layer.

With the wild swings over just the aircraft interaction and handling between Beta's,  I can see their point. Truly.  So, then, it will be the waiting game.

Here's a couple quotes from Andrey a few hours ago on Facebook.

"FD grid density will be increased shortly after 1.07 approval. Unfortunately no estimate dates as usual but I wish to submit 1.07 for testing this weekend."

"Thats why we get rid of fixed textures and use noise instead to render details on a wide range of cloud scales. I hope to give out test assembly this week so test groups can evaluate and post some teasers."

Will have to wait and see how long this "testing" phase is.
