Exploding Headphones On Flight Burn Woman’s Face

Recommended Posts

This has got to be among the very last things it would ever occur to anyone to worry about on a flight..... (if it was actually the headphones and not the phone battery)

Regardless, somebody, somewhere is probably about to be sued.

Did they say what brand were they ?

They apparently don't want to mention any names, either of the headphones, or the batteries.

I remember reading something similar a few months ago. Not with headphones, but someone's e-cigarette battery exploded in their pocket and melted their boxer shorts to their skin.

There are headphones out there with integrated rechargeable batteries, and there's no way to know if was the batteries themselves malfunctioned, or if the headphones malfunctioned in some way, causing the batteries to fail catastrophically.

In either case, I don't think accident investigators are allowed to make assumptions, especially to the press, without looking closely at every possibility.

I have the Bose quiet comforts and have had them for a few years as have many others for a lot longer. Mine use replaceable batteries. I expect if you bought cheap lithium batteries from the internet there would be a good chance of this happening. To me that is user error and not the fault of Bose. I'm not saying this is the case for the unfortunate woman that got burned. We have no information on what type of headset or batteries she was using. It may be a long time before you get the headsets if you are going to wait for more details on this incident first.
