Hello guys,

I am looking at the HP pavillion desktop PC's as they are in my price range.

One of the PC's come with intel core i7-6700 Processor and the other comes with an i5-6400. The i5 processor is obviously cheaper!. Apart from that, they are almost identical and both have intel HD integrated 530 graphics. The 530 is a mid range iGPU and should be okay since fsx is heavily coded for CPU usage. My question is: is the £130 extra spend worth it for better fsx frame rates and performance. I will probably use aerosoft airbus and PMDG as well as UK2000 scenery. I want at least 20-25FPS. Is the i7 with higher clock speed and hyperthreading better than the cheaper i5 with no hyperthreading?

Here are the rest of the specs:

Operating system: Windows 10 Home 64

Processor Chipset: Intel H110

I do not think that you are going to be happy with this configuration..

Integrated graphics is not going to do the job if you want to fly with any addons at all..

i5 is OK, but a dedicated GPU should also be on your shopping list..

So do you think I should buy the i5 one and use the money saved for a good GPU? Or just use all the money for an i7 but use its integrated graphics. I only have a 720p monitor so I thought integrated graphics could cope with that, but I guess not! Haha 😂

Hope it's just a typo, but IMHO I would avoid both if they aren't the 'K' model.

No overclocking option with the i7-6700 or i5-6400.

Doubt it's a typo. Besides, these PC's aren't really geared towards overclocking...

Haha no it's not a typo. The overclocking range of Intel processors that I've found are out of my price range. If you can find one for less then £700 then I'll appreciate it!

Fine, I was trying to find out if you were in the UK or not, as there was a system I was going to recommend.  As you're being arsey, I won't bother

You can check out Overclockers UK, Novatech, Scan, CCL etc to see if they have any PCs in your price range.

Trying to find a PC with an Intel i5k CPU with Windows 10 and a decent GPU is quite difficult for under £700 but I have found a few PCs you can look into:

https://www.box.co.uk/Cube_Assassin_Watercooled_Gaming_PC_Core_1660074.html

- Comes with i5 4690K with water cooler, 8GB RAM, Kingston Hyper X 120GB SSD, 1TB Seagate SSHD and GTX 960 4gb. However it only comes with Windows 8.1. You could upgrade to Windows 10 at a later date.

You can still upgrade to Windows 10 for free from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade?tduid=(14c348e893a91089cb2980533c6ee123)(256380)(2459594)(TnL5HPStwNw-0FBZfNm6YPFXNhiu3o52rA)()

(£699) + Free UK delivery - 14 day no quibble return + 2 year warranty

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/StormForce-Core-i5-6400-Quad-Core-Gaming-PC-8GB-1TB-HDD-GTX-1060-WiFi-Win10-/262896061859?hash=item3d35d38da3:g:8pgAAOSwSlBYrwXO

- Non K CPU but you could upgrade at a later date. Comes with a decent graphics card, SSD + HDD and Windows 10.

(£599) - 12 month warranty

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GAMING-PC-INTEL-i7-3770K-3-50GHZ-16GB-RAM-120GB-SSD-1TB-HDD-GTX-1050-WINDOW-10-/252814505138?hash=item3adceb34b2:g:9pwAAOSwWxNYyYHb

- Comes with Intel i7-3770k, 16GB RAM, SDD + HDD, Windows 10 and GTX 1050 2gb which should be good enough at 720p but you can always upgrade it later.

(£599) - Only 30 day warranty

If you could increase your budget to around £750 you would be able to get a better custom built PC from the main PC websites.

I have this same setup (Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-6700 (3.4 GHz, up to 4 GHz, 8 MB cache, 4 cores) except i have a dedicated nVidia gpu.  My simulator works so smooth and trouble free at 30fps with a little fluctuation in clouds but always smooth, even with low fps.

Bear in mind I can upgrade the graphics card whenever I want, once I can afford to buy a good one!

Usually prebuilt PCs from HP and other brands do not include good power supplies with them unless stated. That means you would probably need to buy a new PSU from Corsair, be Quiet!, Seasonic etc when you decide to get a good graphics card.

Select the following options for this customisable PC from Dino PC (https://www.dinopc.com/gaming-pcs/primal-gs7-gaming-pc):

CPU: i5-7600k
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Seidon 120 v3 Liquid Cooler
Case: Game Max Silent Black Silent ATX PC Gaming Case
Motherboard: Gigabyte H110M-S2H
RAM: 8GB Geil DDR4 2400hz
PSU: Corsair VS 650w
GPU: No GPU - Use integrated graphics
SSD+HDD: 128GB SSD with 2TB HDD
DVD: Asus 24x DVD-RW
OS: Windows 10 Home x64

Price: £682.02 inc. VAT - Free UK delivery during March (£15 otherwise) - 5 year warranty

Overclocking will help increase FPS and the i5-7600k overclocks well especially as FSX is more CPU dependent.

All you would need is to do in the future is add something like a GTX 1050ti/ 1060/ 1070 and you will have a good PC especially at 720p.

What nvidea GPU do you have if you don't mind me asking?
