Just saw this posted on Facebook, talk about contaminating the evidence. Apparently the pilot was injured after a mid air collision in St Bruno, Quebec

I think he gave rights to it to a media outlet. It was 2 C150 Trainers had a mid air collision in Montreal, one ended up on the roof of a mall, the other in the parking lot. A crowd of people were flicking through the wreckage in the parking lot.

From what I gather the pilot that crashed on the roof survived and the one in the parking lot didn't make it. They were both students in their early 20's

I listened to the tower communication. One airplane arriving was assigned minimum 1600 ft. The other plane departing the airport was assigned no higher than 1100 ft. Both pilot acknowledged their altitude restrictions.

About thirty second before the crash, the tower warned the first plane to keep 1600 ft and warned of the other traffic presence at one NM and 1100 ft. The tower repeated twice the warning tnen asked twice if the plane was listening. No answer by the pilot on this communication sequence of about 45 second. 

Very sad event... sympathy to the family of the killed pilot and hope for recovery of the second one...

If an aircraft is blundering and not responding, asking that aircraft if they are paying attention, twice no less, is doing nothing but wasting time. Tell the *other* plane to get out of the way.  Who knows what is going on in the cockpit of the blundering aircraft? They may be incapacitated, may have a radio failure, or may just be plane dumb overwhelmed or not understanding.  Either way, it's a waste of time and breath trying to issue critical instructions to a pilot who either doesn't understand or not listening.

A certain amount of blame lies with the training of this controller.  A better trained controller would have been trained to immediately stop talking to the blundering aircraft and issue the critical collision avoidance instructions instead to the aircraft that is doing what it is supposed to do.

Thanks for the link and additional information. What an entirely avoidable tragedy.
