External Link in Signature no longer working

I have many visitors each day and my site is hosted behind decent security. Does this mean that every weather site has to reside behind https addresses? That's ridiculous.

Every weather site? No, every site, period. That's where the world is moving towards, now that encrypted communication is computationally feasible.

As you point out, you're not a sysadmin. But you shouldn't need to be; your hosting provider should be giving you the ability to use SSL via a free provider such as LetsEncrypt. It's relatively straightforward to generate the certificates required and put them into the web server if you understand basic Apache and DNS configuration. If they don't know how to do this.....

And FWIW, I hope the signature banners don't refresh. I trust AVSIM, but I don't trust content injected into AVSIM's pages by third parties. I'm sure you're very honest and your site is secure, but I can't say that for every single AVSIM user. I understand it's a loss of functionality, but Internet security (just like aviation safety) depends on many layers of protection.

Cheers!

Luke,

Every site is going to have to have that s after http before it can be accessed? That sounds mad. From humble home-grown sites to banking websites? That's going to cause pandemonium.

My sysadmin has enabled LetsEncrypt. if you place an 's' after http in my website you'll see most data but not all. If I'm compelled to switch to https then some of it will have to go. All in the name of protection it seems. Are we all to be considered criminals or terrorists?

I'll see how things pan out. My weather forum will probably be the best place for tips. Thanks.

I think there's a setting on our end that cached the non secure image on our server and then displays it securely on our side. For that reason it's probably going to be days old. I will see what effect it has on our performance to decrease the cache time on non secure images and follow up soon.

Chase,

Any news on the caching please? The info in my weather banner is now 4 days old (from when I last manually updated it).
