Chinese Aeronaut's Homebuilt Aircraft

Recommended Posts

Here is a fascinating article on how Chinese farmers and ordinary citizens are building their own homebrew aircraft. Some of them actually work!

Amazing ingenuity. Reminds me of something I heard a while back (apparently true) where someone had attached some JATO rockets to an ordinary car; they set them off and couldn't turn the car when it was going at several hundred mph, and it ploughed into a cliff face. Darwin Award time.

There are few gyrocopters that seem to be quite well designed and built.

The JATO rockets mounted on a car however was definitely a classic "Bad Idea."

This was very nice to read.  I've traveled in all sorts of aircraft from airplanes to helicopters, but I've never experienced a flight in a gyrocopter.  I've seen them from time to time at Arizona airshows and I was always impressed at how quickly they could get off the ground.  Another interesting aerial vehicle from China is the Ehang 184:

I don't think I'd ever risk getting in one, but if you're rich and frustrated with traffic during your commute.........
