Windows 10 Update for the Level-D 767

Recommended Posts

Nice!  Thanks for posting.  Now if we could just get a modern remake of this plane...  Best simulated plane ever, IMHO.

On a side-note: I can't believe this still costs $55...  Yet another reason not to shop at Flight1.

Good news, but with the price of the product right now, I will give a no-go there.

Even though it is still being supported, the product is basically stand still. This update should be out years ago, I do not know why it takes them so long for the compatibility issue. I don't know if it works in P3D or not.

Their 767 is all-time considered one of the best product made for Flight Simulator, but the fact is if you are not moving forward then you are falling back.

AFAIK they are not updating or doing anything about their 767, I hope that I am wrong and they will have a newer version, but I doubt it.

Well, when you consider that PMDG charges $100 - $130, then this actually a pretty good deal. The airplane was way ahead of it's time and it's still competing with current releases; still has most of them beat too. If they updated the graphics, they could easily charge $100 for it without touching anything else.

Unfortunately, I think their effort is probably limited to keeping the product alive so we can still use it, and so that they can still sell it. Other than that, I think they have pretty much closed shop.

Hi,

PMDG releases top quality products every single time. They are well-known to be one of the best developers out there. We are not paying the price of the products themselves but also pay for the "Brand". In addition, their service and continuous (free) updates for all their products are one of the main reason why the price is so high.

They have stated that they are going to updates their older products (737NGX, 777) to meet higher standards, equipped with new technologies that they implement into their newest 747. For me, their products price are high, very high, but worth it in many aspects. We all here because of our hobby/passion for aviation and they (simulator developers) are keeping it alive.

I am not and will not compare Level-D and PMDG. The price of every addons for simulator keeps getting higher and higher but not our salaries, have to deal with it.
Cheers,
Hoang Le

I didn't ask for a sales pitch; I know exactly what they offer. I was merely pointing out that the Level-D is almost half the price of a typical PMDG offering, so complaining about the price made little sense to me, because there is plenty of quality with that 767.

It's almost half the price, and over 10 years old.  Also, has no virtual cockpit.

In terms of system simulation they're in the same ballpark but on everything else PMDG aircraft are in a different league.

Mine has a VC and the prodcut ships with a VC. Look at the product page to confirm. In fact a member here named Andres Folker put out an updated VC package for it.

Hmm, could have sworn that was the case...  Well, guess it's just a very old one then.  The difference in graphical quality between this 10+ year old add-on and any PMDG plane made in the past 5 years is like night and day.

Yeah, agreed, the VC needs updating, but the rest is just as good. Like I said, there are models coming out today that still can't come close to the same simulation quality.

I'm not directing any of this at you in particular but for those interested:

Go through the manual: http://www.leveldsim.com/sevensix_downloads.asp

They describe all the 767 systems..electrical, hydraulics etc. and detail everything. Just read one part, like the hydraulic systems description; that will give you a sense of the quality they have; and yeah, that was 10 years ago when PMDG was only half way there. It's not hard to be in a different league when you competition is only 3 guys with families doing it on the side and inactive for 10 years.

If anyone out there really likes simulation and wants to learn about the 767 and can deal with a VC that is not as nice as more "current" aircraft. Then this product is a gem. And it's easy on frames and VAS.

We should look at this patch as more a product of good faith towards existing customers limited by Windows 10, rather than an update to open new sales doors. (*even though it might do just that). On the flipside, at least the product does remain available for those who never owned it to give this legend a chance.

If you have never owned it and don't understand what the excitement might be for getting this classic operational in WIndows 10, that's OK. Given the airplane's age, I don't think anyone would tell you that you must rejoice over this news. But - for those who have been stymied by Windows 10 and have had to leave the Level-D in the hanger for a long time, this is a big deal.

Although the graphical presentation is now dated and the ultimate depth in systems modeling has been eclipsed by the more contemporary PMDG 777 and 747, the Level-D 767 still stands as one of the most functional, flyable, and revered complex addons produced over the past decade.

Enjoy, captains!

I agree.  From a systems standpoint this plane is fantastic.  Just wish for a graphical update :(
