Massive FPS drop after view change, landing and take off.

Hi,

Immediately after takeoff, landing or a view change (by pressing "s") my FPS plummets from being very smooth to horribly choppy, I have re installed Prepar3d (v3) twice and have had the same issue both times. Here is a video showing an example of the bug just after a view change.  I have also included my Prepar3d graphical settings, scenery settings and lighting settings in links to images below. The only way to fix this issue for me is to either restart Prepar3d, or reload the scenery (as I do in the end of the video by tabbing out)

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Seems strange that your specs shows i7 6700@2.60 GHz, when that processor should be 4.0+ range. Just what have you been doing as far as adjustments in the bios?, and how many "tweaks" have you applied to P3D.cfg?

I haven't done any tweaks to my cfg file yet. What are bios?

Its an i7 6700HQ which is rated at 2.6 - 3.5 turbo, also, it's an Alienware so I doubt there anything wrong in the BIOS.

Don't worry about BIOS. There has to be something else wrong with your P3D setup, maybe video drivers. Try setting your Frame Rate Control to Unlimited.

If you don't mind a little observation here...

Your specs don't show the exact model of gpu (specs page shows nothing and the P3D settings show a GTX10??).  By the behavior in the video, it looks like a 1060, which is equivalent to a desktop 980.  Not the worst gpu to have, but gpu performance is important in P3D.  You're pushing the graphics pretty good in a fighter, as opposed to a GA aircraft, so that could have something to do with your performance.  have you done anything with the gpu settings in the nvidia control panel?  I would check to make sure you have your power options set to prefer maximum performance, make sure your multi-monitor setting is set to one display.

Your cpu is decent, but not the performer for Skylakes. Since it tops out at 3.5ghz and by the looks of things, you may be experiencing thermal throttling.  I don't know how the Alienware laptops are cooling these days, but when I had one, it didn't do the greatest to keep the system cool when running P3D.

I didn't see anything about what add-ons you are running, in addition to the core sim either, and that too can have an effect.  I don't know when you took the screenshot of your system specs, but I see 16gb installed but 8gb remaining, so something is sucking up resources.

It's hard to troubleshoot completely and provide some good advice, but for now, try rebooting your system, then as soon as you are back to the desktop, just run P3D, without anything else running and see what your performance is like.  I remember times when a good reboot helped, but everyone's experience will be different.

I think I have the same problem with a new install of Prepar3d V4 (and on a newly installed Windows 10 system).

Computer is an i7 6700K at 4Ghz, 1080Ti, 16 Gb RAM, Windows and P3D installed on an SSD.

(Without touching any settings) It runs fine (over 100fps) with the default scenario when it loads into the cockpit, but drops to ~2fps when I change views. If I change back to the cockpit the fps is still slow. I have to restart the scenario to return to good fps.

 

I've played with several in-game graphic settings and monitor setups but nothing has worked so far.

Is anybody running a Radeon video card and if so, do you get the same issues as above? What settings are you using? I am about to purchase v4 but am interested in how Radeon cards work in it.

Looks like many people with 6700K have the same issue. Did you try to turn HT on?
