X-Plane

Recommended Posts

Hi,

@PMDG: do you consider to bring the 747 to X-Plane after migrating the DC 6 from X-Plane to P3D. (I am looking to use a new platform and I am not happy with p3d. X-Plane 11 seems quite promissing. One other alternative would be the new sim from dovetail games but I have some doubts, if this will be the right platform for me).

I seem to recall someone from PMDG saying that X-Plane wasn't up to being able to simulate everything they have simulated in the FSX/P3D 747-400. Dunno whether that is true, and what they were specifically referring to or whether it was more a case of the disinclination to spend the time making such things work, which I've no doubt they probably could, but certainly the way the default jet airliners in X-Plane 11 fly is a bit iffy from what I can tell. Presumably that itself would be a case of tweaking things, but it sure wouldn't be a five minute job.

Having said that, we know Laminar are working on simulating an A320 for the X-Plane platform, supposedly to a certified standard for a private client. That being the case, one presumes the flight modeling is in for a tweak, since if it flew like the default X-Plane 11 737-800NG, there is no way it would be certified as handling like the real thing.

It's no secret that Austin tends to apply how X-Plane simulates things to what he is particularly interested in, which is why it tends to be pretty good for light aircraft but less so for larger aircraft, but if he's got to get an A320 flying right in X-Plane, then one would imagine doing so would make the base platform more capable of supporting a very complex jet simulation, and if that were the case, it'd then make more sense for developers such as PMDG to have a crack at it. But one thing is certain, with the minimal flight modeling changes in P3D and the static platform that is FSX, developers know where they stand in terms of creating stuff for those platforms, whereas with the constant tinkering of X-Plane, that's a bit less of a certainty for them, whereas a 64 bit version of P3D, or the similarly 64 bit version of DTG's new sim will both be very much like FS in terms of how they model flight, and that is the devil which many developers of simulated big jets know.

i thought they addressed that in soooooooo many of their previous posts and they said that the DC6 was simply a test subject and they had no plans to port planes over.

We all know that PMDG has a strong reputation for putting together some of the best study-level aircraft for flight simulation, and as far as moving into another simulator like X-Plane, yes it was a test with the DC-6, but as far as whether or not they will continue to work with X-Plane, it is all speculation right now.  Injecting rumors and hearsay into these type of discussions, just fuels more of the same.  Who really knows if Robert and his team will maintain a stance of "no x-plane in the future"?  If X-Plane evolves into a simulator that meets PMDG's needs for developing their aircraft, then perhaps they'll give it a shot, but right now, LR still has a lot of work ahead of them, so only time will tell.

As for study-level aircraft being developed for X-Plane in general, there are a lot of promising developers out there, and even the current offerings are getting closer to that study-level echelon of aircraft.

No speculation.  Robert has posted here that PMDG is not going to develop NGX/747/777 for XPlane.  The interested may search for that post.

Not to beat a dead horse here, but using the search function will answer this question very easily as there are dozens of posts referencing PMDG and if they have any plans on bringing further development to X-Plane.

This is not true!

He said that the 747 will not be ported yet, he doesn't said anything about the other planes, and if I remember correctly he said long time ago that the 737 and 777 will come after de DC6, I can't find this post anymore, it was in news posted by RSR!

Would actually like to see that 'evidence' / post...
As far as I can remember, Robert said that we shouldn't expect to see any PMDG planes for X-Plane 'for the forseeable future'.

RSR own words:

XPlane Development Status Thread [Updated 12SEP14]

Gents-
We should have a more detailed update for the Xplane side of the house shortly...  We had an announcement brewing for mid September- but some details have us sitting on it for the moment.
I can tell you that the long term plan is that you will see the NGX, 777 and 747v2.0 in Xplane...  That is where we are ultimately headed....

Gents-
The PMDG developer who is currently in charge of moving our products into Xplane has been assuring me for two years that "Xplane users are very smart users."
Apparently so.... but not very good at following instructions.
PMDG requires that all users sign their posts in this forum.  Please read the forum guidelines and adhere to them- they are not a suggestion, they are a requirement.
Now- as for some of the massively ill informed conjecture going on here:  Did anyone read my post in which I pointed out that we are moving the NGX, 777 and 744 into Xplane?  Or am I talking to myself again....

Is this enough "evidence"???

There is a more recent post where he states that the 744 will not be ported in the foreseeable future. Nothing is carved in stone, so best to just wait for something to hit the table. No need to pull your hair out.

Knock it off, guys. Arguing about something you have no visibility into, nor control over is pointless and is causing a lot more drama in this thread than it needs to.

Yeah, I tried this as well. However I do not know why, but before I started this topic, I was searching in this forum for articels but always got error 504 (the server did not respond). So I decided to ask again. As well I was thinking that this forum is for communication and asking if something is not 100% clear.

I had/have also the hope that PMDG might reconsider their plans with regard to X-Plane if we - the customers - say: hey, x-plane 11 is a good new simulator and we would like to fly your products in x-plane as well.
