x plane woes

The line of code I was referring to, is related to Windows Tool Tips and the WorldEditor. You should review the crash log, and send it to the X-Plane developers. I switched to X-Plane 11 from FSX; I've been using it during the public beta testing, and I haven't had any problems. I'm running X-Plane 11 on my older i7 2600K OC to 4.7, on W7 64bit.

What program do I need in order to view the crash logs? They are in some kind of code when I try to view them.

Maybe you have overlooked my answer to your initial post. There is the "log.txt" file in your X-Plane folder. This is not the crash log, but also very very important. It often even includes the reason for the crash at its end. Or at least points to a certain plugin that might be the reason. That's why I asked you to post this file here, if you want more help than blind guessing. (You have to post it after the crash, the file gets re-written every time you start XP).

FALSE..... it not taxes any more then P3D and for example RogRealbench  stresstest and benchmark is harder on the system.

If you do a proper OC no problem at all, I run my 7700 at + 5ghz in X-Plane11 same bios settings as P3D.

We have seen this discussion before. Benchmarks are usually taxiing one part of your system, be it CPU or GPU. X-Plane taxes your complete system, both CPU, GPU and additionally memory, memory lanes between all those, and as seen here again, usually for a much longer period.

FSX/P3D is not putting your system under the same strain (memory usage is much lower, much more CPU bound and much less GPU, there is basically much less data flying around your data busses, then compared to X-Plane).

If you have crashes with an overclocked system, the first advice must be to dial back. Then you probably do NOT have a proper OC.

Memory usage OK,  but that's not hard , cpu bound yes but in that case you put more strange on the cpu, gpu bound not sure what you talk about ?

P3D can load 2x1080 sli to maximum xplane not support SLI your stuck with the titan xp or 1080ti 

Ordered a 1080ti just for XP11  , the rest of my system running with equal load p3d or XP11.

Specs 7700k at 5.2ghz ( 4c/8t ) kraken x61 ago,  4x8gb gskill 3600 c15 mems , z170 maximus IV extreme. 2x 1080 strix until I get the strix 1080ti, 500gb ssd win7 p3d , 500gb ssd win7 XP11, DUAL BOOT,  1TB SSD for ortho4xp.

Very very pleased with xplane not a single crash.

Even if I am new to XP , the basic for OC is the same , a 6700k should easy do 4,6-4.8ghz and 7700k  4.8-5ghz in xplane11 without any problem 100% stable.

OP said he is not overclocking.  Though I tend to agree with @westman as once you have a stable overclock you should be fine.  Otherwise, it's not a stable overclock.  I don't see XP stressing my system as much as tools like Prime95...based on CPU usage and temperatures.

OP said he is not overclocking.  Though I tend to agree with @westman as once you have a stable overclock you should be fine.  Otherwise, it's not a stable overclock.  I don't see XP stressing my system as much as tools like Prime95...based on CPU usage and temperatures.

I noticed the missing scenery file messages also and may try a reinstall of the scenery files as they took a

very long time to install which makes me think some files didn't make it in. I downloaded the program thru steam.

 

How would one go about trying to make overclocking stable or do I need to talk to a tech about this?

Seems like I remember hearing that you can cause errors when installing programs while machine is overclocked.

It's a tedious process and there are plenty of tutorials on the web for this.  There's a learning curve and quite a bit of trial and error.  Also, some hardware changes may be necessary as far as cooling goes depending on how your rig is set up.  If you bought the computer pre-built I wouldn't attempt it.  If you built it yourself, then you probably have enough knowledge to search out the specifics for the CPU/motherboard brand, etc. that you have, make the necessary bios changes, etc.

That would be possible if the PC has an unstable overclock...though unlikely because installing is not taxing the system at all...it's just copying files.  A normal system boot would certainly be more taxing.

Prime 95 doesn´t stresses your system, it only stresses your CPU. You don´t get any information if your RAM or your busses run stable. If the GPU runs into trouble and so on... And tobe more precise it only stresses some parts of your CPU, not the complete CPU.

Let me throw this out - I was talking to a tech and he suggested that I may not have stable power getting

to the computer and maybe I should invest in a universal backup that would stabilize the power input.

Actually, that's not true.  Prime95 does test memory as it compares output with pre-defined solutions.  The GPU is not overclocked on most systems so that is moot, but that can be done with other tools independently unless you're also overclocking system busses.  I've had memory failures (when overclocking RAM) using Prime95 that did not show up using tools like MemTest86.  Thanks.

UPS's don't generally do that function.  Mine is offline until power is interrupted.  They're good to have if your local power company is giving you fits, but it's not going to make an unstable system stable.
