P3D v3.4 Stuttering problem default scenery help please

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I am having troubles with P3D 3.4 stutters (apparently I am not alone here) though the stutters I am experiencing are a bit strange at least to my opinion. I recorded a short video that you can hopefully see the issue. It happens randomly between certain amount of time, let's say 15-30 seconds intervals, it also happens often if I touch a knob or something else in the cockpit. The sim literally locks for a millisecond and continues normally until the next micro-stutter. Here is my PC specs:

  • CPU: Intel I7-7700K (Kaby Lake) OC'd to 4.6 Ghz
  • Mobo: Asus Strix 270F Gaming
  • GPU: Asus Strix Advanced GTX 1080 8GB
  • RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance 3200Mhz
  • SSD: Toshiba 1TB TR150 (only for P3D for now)
  • Monitor: Acer Predator x34 1440p G-Sync

So to start, I am not having problems with any other games, simulators etc, this only occurs with P3D. In addition, I've probably tried every suggestion that I found on the web:

  • Tested multiple affinity masks, though I found 84 and 85 work best for me.
  • Tested with FFTF=0.01 , no luck.
  • Disabled Anti-virus (Eset NOD 32 2017) and excluded P3D folder from being scanned.
  • Disabled Hyper Threading from the BIOS
  • Locked FPS all the way from 20 to 60 (unlimited works best for me with G-Sync enabled)
  • Tested without G-Sync, V-Sync
  • Changed graphics from the very lowest to the very highest options in P3D
  • Disabled vegetation, lowered traffic or no AI traffic at all, same for shadows and water detail.
  • Rolled back nVidia drivers  (currently 376.33)
  • Removed my plugins Rex 4 TD plus SC and AS16 (with or without - same problem)
  • Re-installed P3D completely removing all left over folders
  • Deleted shaders folder every single time I make a change
  • Gave P3D high-priority in task manager
  • Played with nVidia inspector and all suggested tweaks. Currently I only use NI for setting power mode to "high performance"

At the very same time I monitor CPU and GPU usage and temps. I get 30% CPU usage most of the time with almost 0 hiccups to 100%, even if I see 100% hiccup does not affect the SIM at the exact same moment. No matter what I tried the micro-stutter is there. I am getting to the point of giving up because this really ruins the enjoyment of flying. Not to mention I am going to invest into PMDG planes and ORBX scenery, but before I cure this problem I am not willing to do it.

Here is a link to the video I've recorded:

Please note when I turn the heading knob for example or touch controls. It's kinda hard to see on the video but I think at 1:49 is where you can see the stutter and also 2:17 as well. I might have to record another video with my phone so that you can see better. Please let me know if needed. Your help is much appreciated. I am stuck and don't really know what else to do or try. I hope with your help to be able to get rid of this stutter problem.

THANK YOU!

I know it's kinda hard to see on the video but I do see it at 1:49-1:50 and at 2:17. Probably because the video is recorded at 30FPS is hard to see. I am gonna try to record with my phone and post another shortly.

Probably the scenery loading.

But If this is all the stutter you get, I wouldn't even bother looking for an answer.

Here is the video from my phone. I think is much easier to see. 0:45 the sim screen literally locks for a sec. Also between 1:19 - 1:21 I am moving the course knob and if you look outside the cockpit you will see the stutter.

Hi, thank you for your time. You are probably right about that, I was thinking the same at some point, but I wanted to check with you guys and see if there is a cure for this thing. It is really annoying and I am afraid that when I put PMDG planes and ORBX this will turn into much worse. What do you think?

P3D ways are just so unpredictable. People with the same hardware end up with different results.

Who knows installing ORBX solves your problem

OK,

Well first thing I see is your flying towards a very built up area, its loading new building etc, a lot.

Also I noted that your unlimited frames go from 70ish to 30 ish. Thats showing you your PC cannot keep 70 going so its saying wait.....

The stutter you have are very small and normally you get them when turning and the scenery is being loaded in. It does not look bad really.

If you have HT ON you imo have the right AM.

Have a look at my guild in my sig below, try it, you have nothing to lose.

BTW the first thing to do is delete your config then try it.

P3D will never be stutter free, AS16 ASCA loading new screen, addon airports being loaded in, etc, all = small stutter. If you give your PC time to breath its helps.

EDIT:

You have HT turned off you SHOULD NOT have a AM at all.

The more I look at your config the more I see is wrong. Delete it. Don't use a AM, or turn HT back on and then and only then use 85. Personally I like HT ON as I can make chase plane use what P3D is not using. Some like to turned OFF so they can overclock more, your CPU imo does not need HT OFF at that speed.

HI, thanks for the details answer. I will definable check your guild and report. You are correct, I forgot to mention that I get the stutters on turns as well! I am currently with HT ON and that's why I am using AM=85, but will follow your advice and will not touch the cfg file. I already deleted it 20 times but it does not make any difference tbh. Also I am not locking FPS because of the G-Sync monitor I have. The sim is perfect smooth regardless of the up and down FPS because as far as I know G-Sync syncs every frame. I've tried with V-Sync enabled, G-Sync disabled etc.... does not make any difference. Even if I lock the FPS to 59 for example is still kinda smooth but the stuttering described above is still there. Hope that info helps. Meanwhile, I am going to test with your suggestions.

Regards,

Sunny

The point of locking your FPS at 22 is that your PC is running as fast as it can all the time, hence 70+ fps, it's giving you the max it can.

Think of it like this, instead of your PC running flat out, what do you think happens when it only has to draw 22 FPS and not 70? It has room to breath and so when you turn it's still not trying to draw 70 fps it only has to draw 22. Much easier and helps it with texture loading etc and with running other addons, as P3D is not on full tilt every second.

You said above it does not matter what FPS as G-sync syncs every frame so why not try it.

The idea of 22 FPS is that it never drops below it because it's running P3D well with your PC means. Like your car cruising down the road and not running your car at the red line.

Even your PC at big addon airports orbx OLC AS16 etc will see frames in the 25-28 range. So I've found giving back P3D some breathing space works for me.

Another guild is Rob's guild at the top of this forums. More in depth in lots of ways, mine is just focused on the title of it.

Do not use ORBX and PMDG together.  Also what you saw is inherent in FSX-P3D engine.  Microstutters are not removable, not with ridiculous HW spec, not with any kind of tweaks.  I tried.  It's either you accept it and use the sim, or like me slowly moving to XP11 and get rid of P3D altogether, because the microstutters, even for split second is still noticeable to me and I simply can't tolerate it.

I think I will have to accept it yeah. I checked Nyxx guild and it does help me with smoother performance - Thanks man! However, the sudden stutters are still there indeed. I actually was wondering myself whether to go for X-Plane 11 or P3D but there is much more plugins for P3D as is looks like and all PMDG planes that I want are only for FSX/P3D. Considering that P3D should go 64bit some day, I am not sure what to do. There is a big investment for ORBX and PMDG so I have to make the decision now between X-Plane/P3D.

Thank you all for your help!

If you a airline simmer like myself. All you need from Orbx is Global/vector(per guild) OLC Euro/USA. Dont use regions, there for GA flying, they take up to much FPS/VAS for high flying.

If you enjoy PMDG, they are the best we can get along with FSL A320 and Majestic Q400.

I've just started using PTA and thats makes P3D look fantastic, a game changer. https://www.avsim.com/forums/forum/764-p3d-tweak-assistant-pta-and-realismshaderpack/

X-plane 11 looks stunning but it has none of the list above so P3D is my choise.

Have fun hope you can now relax and enjoy!

PS: FXAA needs turning OFF its makes things blurry, it's a bad AA to use.

Hey thanks man. Really appreciated. Yes, I am a PMDG fan though really new into flight simulation but willing to learn a lot. I want to buy ORBX base and LC so exactly as you mentioned. Also, I'm thinking to start with 737 NGX and go from there. Last few hours I've been playing with the settings and to be honest I am satisfied with 30 FPS and of course the annoying stutters, but they are hard to notice as the altitude increases. PTA is something I am going to look at as well. Again, thanks a lot for your time.

Gday Sunny

I'm running an identical rig to yours but i have an overclocked 7700 @ 4.8 on liquid and i have no trouble running P3Dv3.4 with most sliders to the right running it locked @30, it does dip below that sometimes but it runs very smooth. I do get the occassional stutter like everyone else, but thats the nature of the beast. Also in scenery you will from time to time get stutters from rogue tiles in the scenery. Forgot to mention that i have zero tweaks in my config with hyperthreading on. And yes as Nyxx mentioned give PTA a try you won't be dissappointed. So mate dont worry about the occassional stutters, sit back and enjoy your flying.
