[Available Now] Aerosoft Dallas/Fort Worth Intl for XP 10 & 11

Recommended Posts

The new flagship for X-Plane.

Hello everyone. I'm pleased to announce that my new scenery for X-Plane is now available on the Aerosoft Online Shop. Check out the launch trailer below:

Sprawled across 18,076 acres of land—an area larger than the island of Manhattan—DFW is the world's third largest airport. With 681,244 aircraft movements in 2015, it is also the world's third busiest airport. 7 runways, 5 terminals, 165 gates and 3 control towers help accommodate the 1,845 daily flights. DFW is the headquarters and the largest hub of American Airlines, the world's largest airline.

Features

  • 30 cm/pixel orthoimagery and 1 cm/pixel custom ground detail/markings
  • Airport lighting and pavement markings closely follow FAA/ACI standards
  • Terminals with interiors modelled using actual architectural drawings
  • Modelled aircraft overpasses crossing International Parkway
  • Ray-traced ambient occlusion, local illumination and specular mapping
  • Uses advanced X-Plane features such as decal shading and 3D spill lights
  • Animated passenger boarding bridges and Safedock® A-VDGS at all gates (using the freely available AutoGate plugin by Jonathan Harris)*
  • Animated road traffic and Skylink APM
  • Works with the ‘Draw Parked Aircraft’ feature introduced in X-Plane 10.50
  • Complete taxiway network for use by ATC and AI aircraft
  • Fully compatible with the X-Life plugin by JARDesign*
  • Makes full use of the new ground service vehicles introduced in X-Plane 11
  • Thousands of hand-placed objects such as parked cars and streetlights
  • Parked cars, streetlights and terminal interiors can be individually turned on/off to optimize performance*
  • Uses 4K textures to maximize performance by minimizing draw calls

It'll be interesting to see the performance reports from the users.  As I have seen a lot of screenshots of this airport, one thing that sticks out is polys, and by the looks of it, there are a ton.  From the bridges and roadways into the airport, to the curvature of the roofs over the terminals, this might look like a great airport, but may be a beast to have in the sim.  I don't mean to be a party pooper, just injecting a bit of perspective into the conversation.

I just did a tour around the beautiful KDFW in the Airfoillabs C172 and I didn't notice a severe fps drop in frames, just a little - as is to be expected. I didn't do any real before/after "testing" though, but it certainly feels very flyable, comparable probably to MisterX KSFO.

And you can of course configure the airport for performance by disabling cars, lights and terminal interior.

I also  had very accurate placement of static aircraft at the gates (no Austrian regional jet in Texas), maybe thanks to MisterX library?

For 24$, this airport seems well worth the money, especially considering how convenient it is located in the States, i.e. easily accessible from both coasts.

Yes, installing the 'MisterX Library and static aircraft extension 1.51' will give you accurately-placed airlines at the gates. The MisterX library reads the airline codes assigned to the gates, while the default X-Plane static aircraft library currently does not.

He also has a slew of freeware/donationware that is payware quality too: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/profile/125097-misterx6/content/&type=downloads_file

I just have to comment, that in seeing the videos of this very detailed and impressive project, it brings out starkly, just how much XP 10 and 11 NEEDS a great A.I. system to transform airports of this sort to real-world animation.  I mean, you land...taxi to gate, and all those aircraft stationed around you, never move.  Never start push back, never taxi to active, never can be seen landing, and at taxi to gate.  This airport cries out the deficiency of the XP franchise to 'real-world' up the notch lever....

The airport is fabulous, the XP11 environment is totally sterile...

Just my opinion....

Yes, that is surely something that is missing in default XP. The ground vehicle movement is already great and provides a realistic feel to the experience of being at and near the gate. But never encountering other AC on the taxiways surely makes it feel a bit empty.

However, there is the X-life addon by Jardesign, which is free and can provide rather realistic ops from what I've seen. It does cost fps from what I've read though.

EDIT: And there is World Traffic 3, which is in testing and is apparently able to create a couple of thousand AI flights at low fps cost. V2 of that is already working in XP11 they say, but I'll wait for V3. As with so many addons, it's just one guy (who is apparently also a single-dad) doing all the work in his sparetime, so it may take a while until that is finished.

Thanks but i did mean a little bit closer because i mainly fly GA. I just finished a flight from KOKC to KDFW, which was really great.
