Dreamfoil Bell 407 Mini Review XP11

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty terrible when it comes to helicopters - in any sim.  Still, I decided to pull the trigger on this recently updated Dreamfoil Bell 407 for XP11.  This is the native version with PBR textures(it's gorgeous!) and a lot of other new features.  It's 35 bucks, but only 15 if you already had their XP10 version.  This will be a pretty short review as I don't have tons of time to fly these days.  The sounds are the best from what I can hear, well the best I've ever heard for any helo.  Pretty much every event has a sound - this is quite noticeable as I fly through the air (I mean fall lol).  Speaking of falling (flying) - I'm not so good at it.  The controls are quite touchy (realistic!) and I need to practice.  There is a way to modify them in the sim with a popup menu but I haven't done much yet.  The same popup menu controls all the external and internal options (there are many!).  There is a default GNS430 available (which was my question before I bought it).  Whatever options you select will save to each livery.  The liveries do not have registration numbers which is a little annoying to me, the savvy online flyer.  But maybe I could paint some on?  So far I had issues setting force trim/release buttons on my stick, but the developer is working on a quick fix.  I can tell these newer PBR addons tax my aging 2500K system, so I did notice a fps drop with this helo, but I'm looking to get a new system so it hopefully won't be an issue in the coming months.  If the helo looks familiar to you - it should - the modelling and original textures are from Milviz...  I think the helo looked good in P3D too!  Anyway, if you're into helos, I'd definitely recommend this.  Even the circuit breakers are modeled and I still need to try some C+D flights.  Anyway, my favorite part, the screenshots...

Yes I'm leading these shots with a pic of the headset.  It is the most realistic headset I've ever seen in any sim!

The interior is amazing as well (I'll be using that word a lot)

I upgraded my version to the XP11 offering.

Nice. I can see and 'feel' several changes.

Looks very nice, but the old one looked nice too.

Cold and dark starts are cake with this version. No tricks required.

All the gauges work and are legible.

The flight model is different. I'll have to play with the settings to see what works for me. Right now, I find the yaw too sensitive. Otherwise, I like the way it flys.

Nice work indeed.

Thanks.  I'm having the same thoughts with the torque pedals...  the slightest touch and I'm yawing all over lol.  If you find a setting that works let me know!

That is one amazingly modelled headset indeed - nice shots! I have co-piloted a helicopter IRL (under supervision by an instructor of course), but never bothered to try it in the sim. Looks like that could change soon...

I'll be getting this upgrade for sure. And I might just leave the headset on the hook when I fly.

Thanks.  They're so bright on my monitor... I think my settings are a little off.  On my iphone they look a lot better.

Great looking pictorial and helicopter Ryan, XP11 still looks a little flat ( scenery colors) in my opinion.

The Bell 407 in version XP10 was a dream to fly in XP11, but I consider this XP11 version non-flyable! The looks though are slightly better indeed.

I feel sorry I did spend the $15 for the upgrade. Hope Dreamfoils will come with an update of the flight model that is really realistic, if not I will switch back to the XP10 version that flyes beautyfully well in XP11.

Beautiful screenshots!

What source do you use to generate these orthophotos?

I used to fly the XP10 version with 0% stability settings, and I do not see any problems with the flight dynamics in XP11 version.

With this scenery  agree - it's a bit washed out - a downside of the photo scenery...  but at least it's free
