Core i7-7700K Kaby Lake CPU and Win 7 Ultimate

Recommended Posts

I have seen statements that in essence state that the Intel Core i7-7700K Kaby Lake 4.2GHz S1151 CPU will not accept Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit OS, does anyone know this to be true?

Thanks

MS only supports Windows 10 on Kaby Lake.  Whether it will run or not is another story.

Why use W7 when you can get a W10 Pro licence for $30 US from Kinguin. DL W10 from MS and activate it with your Kinguin licence.

I had l Core i7-7700K Kaby Lake running on Windows 7/64 for at least 6 month without any problems. When I got a nasty virus  and could not remove it, I end up formatting and had all the updates without any problems. It does work fine and no problems at all.

Recently (2 month ago) I switched to Windows 10/64 and my computer is perhaps 3 to 8% more efficient, flight simulator wise (P3D latest version) is more fluid, no stutters.

I'm still adjusting settings and searching internet to stop different programs from popping up, very annoying. Right now (because I'm not used to it) i'm still learning different tasks and not quite comfortable, but as I mentioned before, flight simulator experience I'm happy.

As far as I know this business of Win10 not running on older hardware is simply a by-product of M$ FUD. It seems that M$ is trying to adopt the Google style of business and push a whole lot of junk to you (such as unwanted apps etc) with W10.

I don't have an issue with Win10 per se (as a new OS) but I certainly object to it's propensity and insistence to call home telling mama about most everything you do on your machine. For what it's worth I still run W7 Pro.

Alex, have a look at this YT vid. It may help you bring the Win10 beast under control.

Unable to get a replacement for my z77 motherboard I updated to a z270/ I5 Kabylake kit. Then I found out that the new

motherboards were not supposed to be Windows 7 friendly. ( Planned obsolescence ?) . Reports of successful Windows 7

installations prompted me to test the theory. My main reason for using my original SSD complete with all apps and FSX was to avoid the tedium of reinstallation of everything ( Also to keep the current Windows updates ) .

Selected the Win 7 SSD as boot and off we went.

After many "Black screens of death" and despite an incompatible dvd ( Found a working one) the Asus Windows 7 driver installation section installed  sufficient drivers to get the show on the road. The Realtek audio required a reinstall of the Win 7

one to function properly. The Nvidia 1050 graphics card drivers worked fine. My old wireless hardware was incompatible but

the Ethernet line was ok. Printer ok, Logitek force feedback joystick ok, Nostromo Speedpad ok, Sd reader ok, Multi screen ok, Trashed Last Pass manager and Firefox so had to use Chrome and use my password hard copy.

To suppress the MS nag about "Unsupported Hardware" I used an internet patch "aio-wuaueng" which so far has worked

without holding me to ransom. Whether or not I will receive any more Win 7 updates is not critical.

My expensive Windows 10 is to be installed on my old SSD and used as a second boot and "researched" as to its value.

Thanks everyone, sorry late reply I had forgotten about this question and only just found it, still on W7 Ultimate still with my old i7=950 and Gigabyte motherboard. Just now thinking of buying an i7-4770K as there are several for sale on Ebay. I am led to believe that's around 50% faster than my 950 so with a 2nd hand motherboard to take that cpu I should be okay, hopefully.

From the Kinguin $30 (actually, $31 and change) W10 Pro page: "This key can be used only once per PC/motherboard" 😞

Microsoft is the dog in the room judging by some users opinion, When third party company's are making hardware and software not backward compatible, they no even NVidia will stop making drivers for older hardware as AMD will someday.

It`s a bit like wanting 747v3 to work in FS9, and why do I have to upgrade to a 64bit O/S I want to run all my software on my 15year old system, It's daylight robbery.

And intel no longer recommends W7 on there latest CPU`s.

If it`s a new build I would go for the windows 10 USB can be bought on line cheap, that`s what I did just plug in the USB windows 10 will be download and installed just enter the product key supplied and your up and running, if you want W7 you have problem that in less than 2 years reformatting and starting all over again.
