Mods for the Quality Wings Ultimate 757 Collection (SP3)

Recommended Posts

I wanted an aircraft with a FMC and around twenty Euros for an entire model range isn't such a bad deal. And as usual, I can only warm up to a payware add-on after taking a thorough look under the hood and leaving my fingerprints there. Too bad the main gauges are locked up tight in .gau format, so systems-related enhancements and fixes are sadly out of the question.

Kudos to QualityWings for the built-in load/save facilities.

All models and panel variations will get the following:

Cockpit models:

- Fixed mouse wheel interactions for all operable selectors

- Fixed clickspots for some elements

- Fixed inoperable autopilot selectors when panel lights are on

- Animated rain for the cockpit windows

Panels:

- Key control for the spoiler lever

- Load manager panel

Flight Dynamics:

- Lowered base drag coefficient by around 2.4% for the winglet models

Sounds:

- Additional sounds for the operable cockpit elements (next to the rather quiet standard ones)

Compatibility:

I've tried to make these mods as uninvasive as I can. The only files that are overwritten are the .cfg and .air files, but I've provided backups of the originals for an easy reversal.

The load manager complements QualityWing's and FSX'.

As usual, RTFM.

I'll test fly the bird next weekend after having watched the FMC tutorial.

This QW757 was a huge disappointment. Should have saved my money when it came out for something else. Let's see if they will ever release their 787, and see what it has to offer.

The QW787 is something to get hopes for, they've been developing for ages and they look like they are actually doing what they could do to beat Aerosim in the 787 business.

Well, I did what any good user does and read other's opinions before I clicked the "purchase" button. To be honest, despite knowing that the systems are on the lighter side, I'm a little disappointed because I expected a few more working dummy switches and not having to directly manipulate dials and digital displays to change frequencies because the associated knob doesn't have a clickspot.

But since there's no "money back" on the web (bought the bird on JustFlight), I'll just have to make the best of it.

Well, back in the days when I did purchased it, I did check around for other's opinions, but at the time everyone was soooooooooooo giddy about the latest 757 release since Captain Sim, that I think they had not realized how lacking this 757 was. That's why I'm a big fan of developers who provide the try it before you buy it. Very few aircraft developers did that, it was mainly provided for scenery purchases. Any way, we could only hope they don't disappoint with the 787.

Have never for a second been 'disappointed' with the QW 757, as I had no expectations other than what was advertised.

Meanwhile, I thank you for the mod Bjoern, it's still one of my favorite aircraft (in P3D) to take out.

Cheers,

Greg

Agreed.  Sometimes I want to fly and not spend 30 minutes doing preflight.  The QW757 has been perfect for that.

Another plus for the aircraft is its rather low resource footprint out of the box. In times of HD textures and 10 billion animations, this is quite unusual and much appreciated. Nothing worse than cutting texture resolution in half and compressing into DXT1 format to save as much VAS as possible.

Provided that I find the motivation next weekend, I'm gonna try and add more clickable (not animated, mind you) items to the cockpit. And maybe try to make the wipers work. I already have an idea how to do this.

@Bjoern now that the QW757 has been released for P3D v4, do you ever intend on coming back to this mod and seeing if it still works? :D

Nope. Ultimately refunded the 757 because I found the copy protection too intrusive (background module) and the VC model geometry did not match up with the external windows and I was in no mood to fix that. I also put FSX to rest for XP11.

However, since the DSD sound gauge and XMLTools are available in 64 bit versions (rename the sound gauge to "QW757_Sounds.gau" and replace the one included in the mod package with it) and provided that QW only recompiled the gauges for 64 bit, I see no reason why my mods should not work P3Dv4.

Hi,

i tried to use your mod, but somehow the whole FMC Panel in the cockpit is black. It looks like the texture is missing. Is there a way to fix it?

i really would appreciate your help 😉

See my previous reply. I do not have the 757 anymore.

Having the same problem right now. I've tried to revert to the original panel.cfg for all the panels but doesn't help. so you're right its probably a missing texture...

Other than that the mod is great I gotta say! 🙂
